Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure are a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat is always be welcomed.

My name is Sophie, I am the Activities Coordinator here at Herne Place Care Home. It is my duty to ensure all residents feel happy and content. I love my job because I enjoy seeing our residents smiling and having fun on a daily basis.
I enjoy getting to know all of our residents on a one-to-one basis and in a group setting. This allows me to get to know their hobbies and ambitions as individuals, and fulfil these with life enriching activities they appreciate and will benefit from.

Life at Herne Place Care Home
Art Class
This afternoon our residents have had an art class and they have painted some amazing artwork.
Good old fashioned sing song
This morning the residents started the day with a good old fashion singalong.
Flower Power
Residents at Herne Place in Herne Bay celebrated International Flower Day which took place on January 19th.
International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.
Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including, flower arranging competition, reminiscing about their gardens and flowers in the home’s garden, virtual visits to famous gardens on YouTube and a flower quiz which everyone really enjoyed. Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.
Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Herne Place said: “Our garden is a much loved space, residents really enjoy looking after the plants and flowers and watching them grow and change through the seasons. We don’t have many flowers at the moment so our residents very much enjoying the escapism of virtually visiting some of the most famous gardens in the world.”
CELEBRATING CHINESE NEW YEAR
Staff and residents at Herne Place in Herne Bay welcomed in the Year of the Rabbit with a day of celebrations and activities.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. Head chef Fran cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with Chinese plum wine.
Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager of Barchester’s Herne Place said: “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes. The residents loved watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances too.
A resident at Herne Place said: “I loved the music, the vibrant costumes and learning about the Chinese Zodiac animal traits. A person born in the Year of the Rabbit is said to be kind, confident and strong. I find it fascinating to learn all about different traditions.”
NATIONAL CHOCOLATE CAKE DAY – WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE?
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Herne Place care home in Herne Bay had a fantastic time celebrating National Chocolate Cake Day on January 27th, surely one of the best days of the year!
Overseen by head chef Fran, staff and residents whipped up a selection of different chocolate cakes from chocolate logs to cupcakes. Whilst they were in the oven the residents enjoyed a feast on a selection of chocolate bars and cakes along with hot chocolate.
General Manager, Hadrian Rodriguez, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Chocolate Cake Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves chocolate cake and even better when there is a good excuse to eat it!”
A resident said: “II have eaten so much delicious chocolate today, I think this has to be one of my favourite celebrations.”
Christmas Tipple
There was lots of Christmas spirit in the home today when the residents had a pre-dinner Christmas cocktail. They definitely went down a treat.
