Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

National Poetry Day!

On 6th of October, we celebrated National Poetry Day in style. Many of our residents enjoy poetry, both as a group activity and during their individual time. Poetry is also a great way of reflecting the seasons and there are so many fantastic autumn poems. We hosted a poetry reading session, where we read beautiful seasonal poems, we talked about our favourite poems and poets and we all had a great day.

Silver Sunday!

Silver Sunday, celebrated every year on the first Sunday of October, marks the contributions of older people to society, celebrates their happiness and wellbeing and presents an opportunity to bring generations together. On this day, we reached out to the families and the community and we organised a special party with musical entertainment by Pete Morton and delicious cocktails & mocktails for all to enjoy!

Macmillan Coffee Morning!

In recognition of Macmillan's Coffee Morning, we hosted our very own fundraising event for friends, families and community members to raise funds for the charity on 30th of September. Residents enjoyed spending time with friends, relatives, and members of the local community. Head chef, Christopher Abrigo, and the friends of resident, Rosa, had baked lots of lovely cakes, biscuits and pastries for everyone to sample and for guests to buy to take home. Hugh Myddelton Houses coffee morning was a big success - we managed to raise £226 and, most importantly, everyone had a great time doing it!

Exercise!

Residents and team members had a fantastic time when Anthony, instructor at Gfitness, pop into our home with so much energy and fun! Gfitness is the largest provider of exercise services to the UK care sector and have been working with care homes since 2008 to provide exercise therapy. Anthony was absolutely brilliant and encouraged our residents to get not only physical but also engage with each other in a group!

Art is not a thing, it is a way!

Residents at Hugh Myddelton got creative and had a fabulous painting session. Everyone enjoyed the session, let their imagination run and are excited to show you their artwork.

Pet Therapy

Residents and staff had a fantastic time learning more about different dog breeds and their characteristics, discussing and reminiscing about their own pets. Everyone was delighted when Elena from Performing Pets brought in the very cute Dave, a Dalmatian who is 9 weeks old. We all had a great time watching him run around and play with the ball. Of course, he got lots of hugs too!
