Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Animal Therapy

Residents and team members at Hugh Myddelton House were pleasantly surprised to see some unusual visitors from Performing Pets recently. Everyone really enjoyed cuddling, touching and feeding the little baby goats, Lola and Lily, and learning more about the farm animals and their habits from Des and Karl.

We knew that having the farm animals at the home would be a bit of fun for all our residents and we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence that animals can have on people.

Love is the Air

Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home, gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats and enjoying a live music performance that took place at the home.

Local singer, Pete Morton, performed a selection of love songs including Love Me Tender, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Delirious Love. Residents joined in with the singing and clapped along as the singer performed his finale song Love and Marriage.

We all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Chinese New Year Celebrations

Staff and residents at Hugh Myddelton welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year and made lovely Chinese lanterns. Our Head Chef, Christopher, cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food.

Elvis Presley's Birthday Celebrations

Lots of residents at Hugh Myddelton are big Elvis Presley fans and love his music. To honour the undisputed King of Rock & Roll and to mark what would have been Elvis Presley’s 86th birthday on 8th January, we’ve had a fantastic day listening to all his hits, finding out about his early life and watching old Elvis movies. He was such an incredible talent.
