Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home
World Photography Day!
We are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on life enrichment opportunities for all of our residents. World Photography Day was a great opportunity for residents and staff at Hugh Myddelton House to reflect on past experiences by looking at treasured photographs. A photograph has the ability to capture a place; an experience; an idea; a moment in time. A picture really is worth a thousand words, and photographs play a large part in reminiscence for residents with dementia. Our residents were thrilled to bring a selection of photos from their collection and talk about happy memories and past experience.
Having fun!
What a fabulous morning of sunshine and fun. Residents and team members at Hugh Myddelton House were delighted to spend time in our lovely garden with Anna and her group of local children. We played games, danced and sang. Lots of smiles all round. Thank you to Anna and her group for visiting and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Book Lovers Day!
We were very happy to celebrate Book Lovers Day today, as we all share a passion for reading. The day provided us with a fantastic opportunity to spend it with our noses in our favourite novels. Our residents exchanged information about their favourite books and had a discussion about literature, local writers and famous libraries. There are so many wonderful books to discover, everyone enjoyed finding out about new titles to put on their reading lists. We all gathered together to listen, as our residents read aloud paragraphs from "The Merchant of Venice" by William Shakespeare.
Summer BBQ Party
Staff, residents, relatives and local community came together at Hugh Myddelton House to enjoy the annual Summer Fete held in our garden on 8th of July. We all enjoyed a wonderful sunshine day with live entertainment from the amazing Morris Tamir, raffle, delicious BBQ and cakes prepared by our Head Chef and his team, refreshments and cocktails. There was a really special day with laughter and lots of fun! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped raise funds for our Barchester Charitable Foundation.
Wimbledon
Our tennis fans had a wonderful time watching Wimbledon virtually in the lounge or from the comfort of their rooms, along with delicious strawberries, cream treats and Pimm’s. A lovely time was had by all.
Pony Adventure
The friendly pony Scooby-Doo has won the hearts of residents and staff at Hugh Myddelton House, when Des and Alfie from Performing Pets paid a visit to provide some much-needed animal therapy. What a lovely treat for our residents to see their new furry friend roaming around our garden! Scooby – Doo even went into some of the residents’ rooms for some fresh fruit and vegetables and of course lots of cuddles. We just love seeing beaming faces when we bring the animals in. A pony’s visit to the home was an amazing experience for all our residents and seeing all those smiling faces is something we will never forget.
