Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

World Cocktail Day

On 13th May, residents and team members at Hugh Myddelton House celebrated World Cocktail Day. Whether you're a tequila fan, a whisky lover, a gin aficionado or just like to mix it up and try something new, World Cocktail Day has had something for everyone.

We have all had so much fun trying all sort of different spirits and mixers from around the world. Our residents really enjoyed their tasting session and had a great fun sampling different cocktail recipes such as Pina Colada, Mojito, Cosmopolitan, Margarita, Pimm's, Passion Fruit and Martini or Strawberry Daiquiri.

An afternoon of reminiscence celebrating 200 years of CADBURY

Since the opening of its first shop in Birmingham in 1824, Cadbury has delighted the nation with its confectionary and drinking chocolate. It has been with us throughout everyday and seasonal moments, even popping out of our 99 ice cream cones on the beach. It’s the brand behind our favourite selection boxes, as well as the Cadbury Dairy Milk we unwind with on the sofa. Tastes we’ve known for generations – these have long been a part of Britain’s rich cultural history and the lives of Brits across generations.

Our residents had the best time remembering how they have enjoyed Cadbury throughout their lives, looking at all the old ad campaigns brought back so many memories.

Charity Cake Sale

In our lovely care home, our resident ambassador Rosa organised a cake sale to raise money for awareness for Alzheimer’s society and dementia action week. We had many of our residents interested an intrigued as well as family’s. We had a variety of cakes from sponge cakes to cheesecakes which had us all hungry and tempted to eat as they looked mouth watering good. We had many volunteers coming in with their cakes and support. We all joined and played games such as cards, puzzles, crosswords and we even had a jar full of sweets where you’d estimate how many sweets there are and the person close enough wins the whole thing. We raised a whopping amount of £550 so we thank each and everybody who participated and donated we couldn’t have done this without them. It was a day to remember as we all had a laugh, ate cakes and played games with a cuppa.

Scrabble games with volunteers

We had two lovely volunteers who came from Enfield Council to Hugh Myddelton Care Home, many of our residents were delighted when they arrived as we met some new faces and welcomed in, as well as swiftly starting a game of scrabble in the café area.

On that day we hope was a memorable and enjoyable day for many of our residents to take part in and have fun as well as that we hope the volunteers who were also with us did too.

Eid Mubarak!

Eid al-Fitr means the feast of the breaking of the fast and traditionally begins the day after the sighting of the new crescent moon which marks the end of Ramadan and the start of the month of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar.

The meaning of Fitr is “to break” that illustrates the breaking of the Feast period. Muslims forgive and forgot all past arguments and quarrels and celebrate it together with sweet dishes and other delicious meals.

Hugh Myddelton house Team would love to give our biggest appreciation to Rakshi Salman one of our brilliant chef who did above and beyond to celebrate this special day with us. With her Perseverance in putting herself forward and said “I will bring some food and give my time to the residents for them to be able to celebrate this special Traditional day for our Muslim culture, leave it with me”, saying this with care and pride.

International Dance Day

Hugh Myddelton House care home bopped and shimmied their way to a good old knees up, as residents and staff celebrated International Dance Day.

Staff and residents at the home marked the day with a whole host of dance-related fun activities. Residents were given the cha-cha-chance to learn new dance styles from around the world. They were joined by the Iberian Folkloric dance and music association who put on an amazing show and encouraged everyone to join in.

Jean, resident at the home said: “I have always loved dancing, it took me back to being a teenage again. My family used to all get together and dance at the weekend. I used to enter competitions when I was young you know. It has been wonderful to reminisce about those days and wonderful to have my family here with me to enjoy this day of dance.”
