Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Life at Hunters Care Home

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Two of our staff members at Hunters, Kira Thompson and Debra Palmer, organised a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money for charity. Staff, residents and visitors made a contribution and a bake off competition was held, which was enthusiastically judged by Steve from our activities team. The winning entry was a delicious lemon drizzle cake made by a family member of a resident. The day was enjoyed by all and over £140 was raised for charity.

Sewing Circle

Sewing Circle

Residents made felt poppies at a knitting and sewing circle session; the plan was to make poppies to sell at reception to coincide with Remembrance Day, with all of the proceeds being donated to the British Legion.

Open Evening

On October 26th we held an open evening at Hunters, inviting residents, their loved ones and members of the local community into our lovely home.

Members of the local Women’s Institute group and the Cirencester Soroptimists were in attendance, enabling Hunters to forge better relationships with the local community and to raise the home's profile in the area, showing members of the public what a lovely place it is to live.

Residents and visitors were treated to drinks and a buffet with live music provided by classical guitarist, Steve Franks.

Charity Skydive

Charity Skydive

Jayne Smith, one of our lovely Nurses at Hunters, was persuaded by her three children to take the plunge and join them in a charity skydive to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. This fantastic photo catches the moment perfectly.

Hunters resident, Joan, celebrated her 100th birthday with a family gathering, with relatives coming from as far away as America, Music was provided by country singer, Andy Yapp, with the home's other residents invited for a glass of bubbly and a slice of birthday cake. Joan puts her long life down to staying active and hard work. She is pictured here with her daughters, Elizabeth, Sue and Wendi.

Arts & Crafts

Residents at Hunters enjoyed an afternoon of arts and crafts making lavender bags; they used the lavender grown in the home's gardens. The finished products were put inside residents' wardrobes and drawers, filling their rooms with the lovely fragrance of fresh lavender.
