Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Birthday Celebrations

At Kingfisher Lodge, we know how important it is to celebrate residents' birthdays, from big parties with entertainment for all the staff and residents, to small, quiet family affairs, just enjoying a delicious cream tea together.

It’s important to know those we support well, so we can organise the perfect birthday for them.

One of our most recent birthday parties celebrated the birthdays of three different residents. We made delicious raspberry and blackcurrant jam tarts and sausages rolls, complemented with sherry and wine, which went down well with everybody.

Fun , laughter and dancing were enjoyed with the Spangles, who came in to entertain us; it was another wonderful afternoon at Kingfisher Lodge!

Cheddar Gorge

Folks at Kingfisher Lodge enjoyed a trip to Cheddar Gorge; everyone aboard loved the fantastic views we had driving through Cheddar. We also indulged in some delicious ice cream from one of the many ice cream parlours in Cheddar.

Everyone loved to see the cows on our way there and the goats roaming free, running carelessly in-between the cars.

Afternoon Tea

Kingfisher Lodge would like to thank Ray's daughter, Tracey, for inviting some of her father's friends from the home over to her house for afternoon tea in Chelwood. It was a wonderful day and the sun was shining bright - a perfect afternoon to spend in Tracey’s beautiful garden.

We enjoyed Tracey’s homemade scones and tea, whilst watching the butterflies flying, chickens roaming free and making a fuss over her lovely dog, Bracken.

Thank you very much, Tracey - we all had a wonderful afternoon!

Newton Farm & Café

It was a wonderful sunny day, which meant that folks at Kingfisher Lodge enjoyed another great trip out on the minibus.

We decided to keep it local, so took a trip to Newton St Loe. There is a lovely farm, café and a wonderful shop selling their own meat and local produce, including beautiful plants and fresh flower posies to purchase.

We had a lovely cold drink whilst sat on the shaded patio, talking and watching the children having fun in the play area. Our highlight of the afternoon was seeing the mother pig with all her baby piglets rolling around in the mud in the glorious sunshine.

It was another lovely day out for Kingfisher Lodge residents.

Up, Up & Away

Here at Kingfisher Lodge, we aim to take residents on at least one trip each week. There were buzzes of anticipation as, most recently, we ventured off to Bristol Airport, singing songs as we set off.

We had a long discussion about airplanes the week before, which prompted this trip. So, we picked a Thursday afternoon, as we thought it would be quite busy with planes arriving and departing - and we weren't disappointed. Just as we parked up and opened the doors, Ray spotted the first plane coming in to land. The noise of the engines and the size of the aeroplane excited us all, and sparked plenty of conversations about places we have visited and our favourite holiday destinations. We all had a drink and an ice cream to finish off a lovely afternoon plane spotting. Everybody said they would love to do this trip again.

Centenary Celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Kingfisher Lodge care home as resident, George, reached his 100th birthday in style.

George was joined by staff, relatives, friends and other residents as he received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of this landmark birthday. A champagne reception was held at the home and guests enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the our Chef, Karen Brickell.

Paul Hurren, a World War II reenactor and his friends, gave up their time to come and spend a couple of hours with us and took George for a ride in an old army truck. They also brought in old memorabilia for us to look at and presented George with some wonderful presents, one of which was a Somerset light infantry tie.
