Activities at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Charlotte Thompson
We would like to introduce to you our Senior Activities Coordinator, Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte has worked at Barchester since 2015 and prides herself on delivering a person centred approach, valuing equality, diversity & offering tailored activities. Charlotte joined the team at Tennyson Wharf in October 2022 before moving back to us here at Lancaster Grange in January 2023.
Charlotte is pleased to be welcoming families and volunteers back into the home. Charlotte is a senior activities coordinator and enjoys supporting other homes in our region as part of her job role.

Life at Lancaster Grange Care Home
Blenheim Palace WW2 virtual talk
Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.
Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.
The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.
It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.
Carer's Week
This week at Lancaster Grange we are celebrating Carers week. Thank you just doesn't seem enough- all out frontline heroes have shown courage and resilience during a time unlike any we have been through before.
Senior carer creates therapy dolls
I first heard about this type of doll making many years ago when my cousin used to make them. Last year I taught myself how to knit and crochet and I thought a realistic looking doll would be lovely to model any baby clothes I made, so I looked into buying one.
When I saw how expensive they were, I decided I would have a go at making them instead.
I totally understand the price of the dolls now since learning to make them myself, Each baby takes many weeks to make, has around 40 layers of paint on them to get the realistic look and depth to the skin and each hair on the head is individually placed with a needle.
I’m still a very new artist, but I really enjoy the challenge of turning blank white vinyl into something that makes you take a second glance because you think it’s real!!
I’ve been chatting about my new doll making hobby with many of the people I care for here at Lancaster Grange, so it was lovely to be able to bring one in for them to see in person and have a cuddle with.
National Beer Day
This afternoon at Lancaster Grange we celebrated #NationalBeerDay by relaxing on our sun terrace, savouring a refreshing drink tasting Bitter and Lager Shandy’s.
Our residents reminisced, enjoying the setting as if they were sat out in a British beer garden, Socialising and chatting, sampling nibbles enjoying a good old fashioned pub quiz.
Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral
We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.
We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.
It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.
The wild side of safari life
Here at Lancaster Grange were pleased to be able to dive into the wild safari life of Knowsley Safari and to enjoy an amazing live stream tour of the park’s grounds.
Our residents were smiling and laughing as they got up close and personal with some of the safari’s most popular animals, including giraffes and meerkats and much more!
We had a wonderful time learning more about the animals and enjoying some live feeding demonstrations.
