Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home

International Day of Women

Residents and staff at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We watch a demonstration led by Gabriele from William Howard School and even tried some easy experiments together. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon of a little touch of science.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science focuses on the reality that science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals.

Real Bread Week

Residents and staff members at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle were hosting a baking bread workshop and had a tasting session. This was the aid of National Real Bread Week, launched by the Real Bread Campaign in 2009.

Jean, the resident in the Home, said `the smell of fresh homemade bread reminded me of my past job in the bakery, it was lovely to taste just-baked bread with butter and jam`.

Sending love!

Everyone at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle wished a very happy St. Valentine`s Day! Residents and staff were celebrating St. Valentine`s Day with sweets and treats, themed photoshoots, and learning about St. Valentine.

Virtual tour of NESCAFE

We had a fabulous time joining NESCAFÉ’s virtual coffee experience.

We were able to look into how they sustainably farm their coffee beans, as well as, to have a virtual tour of one of their factories all from the comfort of our home.

To make things even more interesting, our residents had the chance to test their knowledge with an interactive quiz, and to the delight of all to taste the signature Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee cocktail.

Pudding competition

Excitement is running high at Lanercost House as we have been proud to enter the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pudding Competition.

The competition is being run by Fortnum & Mason to create a pudding that the whole nation can bake for themselves and that will be served not only at Jubilee parties up and down the country, but to the Queen herself to celebrate her 70 years on the throne.

Gergana, Laundry assistant here at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle donned her apron to come up with the scrumptious pudding that she thinks encapsulates the Queen’s reign. To make it more complicated, Gergana made 4 different puddings and made all the Home to choose the one for competition. After long debates we all made a decision and announce the winner pudding. Her fabulous pudding is called `Green Fantasy` and she is very happy how it turned out. The pudding is made from fresh mango, avocado, kiwi fruits, tea biscuits, double cream and suits young and elderly. We all wishing good luck to Gergana!

Heavenly cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.
