Activities at Lanercost House Care Home
Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.
Emily Stubbs
I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.
I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.
I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being. Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone. I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.
I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents. I love my job!

Life at Lanercost House Care Home
International Women's Day
Residents and staff at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle celebrated International Women`s Day. Every woman was surprised with flowers and the sweet doughnuts. Our gentlemen were delighted to surprise their wives who came for a visit. We sending all the warmest wishes for every woman in the world.
St Patrick's Day
Residents and staff at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle celebrated St Patrick’s Day in recognition of the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland.
The home was decorated with shamrocks and we all enjoyed exploring the Irish culture and reminiscing about how residents have celebrated St Patrick’s Day through a variety of themed activities using resources from Oomph Wellness. Residents have enjoyed their Irish stew and sourdough bread all washed down with a nice cold Guinness! Everyone had fun and enjoyed the celebrations! Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!
Virtual tour of Cliveden
We were treated to an amazing live virtual talk and a tour of Cliveden, hosted by the house and chapel guides from the National Trust Talks Service.
The volunteers kindly gave us a tour around the famous house taking an in-depth look at Cliveden’s many stories from its 350 year history, from devilish dukes to scandalous headlines and boundary-breaking garden designs to political notoriety.
Starting with the Duke of Buckingham who built the first house in 1666, our residents met the key owners who helped shape the house and its gardens including the Orkney, Sutherland and Astor families.
The talk was accompanied by an illustrated presentation which brought to life these individuals and showed how their influence at Cliveden still continues today.
International Day of Women
Residents and staff at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. We watch a demonstration led by Gabriele from William Howard School and even tried some easy experiments together. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon of a little touch of science.
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science focuses on the reality that science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals.
Real Bread Week
Residents and staff members at Lanercost House care home in Carlisle were hosting a baking bread workshop and had a tasting session. This was the aid of National Real Bread Week, launched by the Real Bread Campaign in 2009.
Jean, the resident in the Home, said `the smell of fresh homemade bread reminded me of my past job in the bakery, it was lovely to taste just-baked bread with butter and jam`.
Sending love!
