Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Talented Young Singers Perform from Diane Fuge's Student Choir

Llys-Y-Tywysog were delighted to welcome a group of singers from Diane Fuge's Student Choir. Their voices were beautiful, they had us all mesmerised as we listened to a wonderful range of songs. Their talent was rewarded recently with a second place at the Sir Urdd Eisteddfod in Llanelli and another at Sir Urdd Eisteddfod in Port Talbot. The group has a broad age range from 8-18 with all having a clear love of singing and music. Thank you so much for giving your time, you are welcome back anytime!

Gfitness Exercise Classes a Hit

Every 4 weeks we have Adele from G-fitness lead a light exercise session with our residents.  The residents really enjoy this exercise activity, they enjoy getting moving and the feeling of accomplishment when the 45 minute session is complete!  The use of resistance bands means every individual is working to their own personal ability level, preventing risk of injury and maximising health benefits. Most residents report having a better night sleep as well.

Summer BBQ, Ukuleles, Lamas and Alpacas!

What a fabulous day it was today at Llys Y Tywysog with our summer BBQ event. It was action packed and so wonderful to see so many families and locals attending and we could see from all the smiles how much everyone enjoyed the day. There were little ones and generations getting together which is always so special.

Thank you to Sarah for organising the decorations and entertainment and to Andy and his team for a delicious barbeque and homemade salads. After lunch there was music from Swansea Ukulele Club, who played many well-known songs. The day ended with some special visitors Leo the Lama and Robbie and Shaun the alpacas from the Alpaca Sanctuary and Life Enrichment Farm they were all such characters. Helen who owns the farm explained all about these fascinating animals, one couple recalled how they had seen alpacas while visiting Peru. For most it was the first time they had been so close to these gentle animals.

Church Coffee Morning

Our residents had a lovely time at Mount Pleasant Church coffee morning today.  We have such an amazing relationship with this local church, a great opportunity for our residents to mingle with the community and enjoy the delicious cakes made by the congregation and we brought our hosts goody-bags with invitations to our BBQ on the 21st July! We hope to see as many faces as possible.  We hope to become regulars at your coffee morning.

We would also like to invite the community to join us for lunch any day of the week, working together is how we can tackle elderly loneliness.  If you or someone you know would like to come to the home to enjoy a free lunch, please do get in touch.
