Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Painting Pottery

What a lovely, relaxing afternoon we had at Llys-Y-Tywysog with Jayne from The Pottery Project. Jayne had returned with our fired ornaments made by our residents for our Fairy Garden we are hoping to create this summer! The fired ornaments were ready for painting and our residents had a lovely relaxed time, chatting around the table and painting their chosen piece. Art therapy like painting has been proven to improve mental health and boost mood as it naturally decreases stress, whilst also improving dexterity. Jayne is one of our regulars at Llys-Y-Tywysog who visits every month, we look forward to seeing her again in 4 weeks.

Easter Sunday Service

This Easter Sunday, the ministers from Mt. Pleasant Church delivered a special Easter Service for all the residents to enjoy. Since the new year we have created an amazing relationship with local Mt. Pleasant Church and its ministers, who come into home every Wednesday evening at 6pm for a Bible Reading, and every Sunday at 1.45pm for an in-home Church Service. At Llys-Y-Tywysog, we recognise our residents spiritual needs and are so happy to be able to deliver this service for them; with the collaboration of the ministers, who we are so grateful for.

Good Friday Church Service

This Easter we were able to take some residents to the Good Friday service held at local Mt. Pleasant Church in Grovesend. This was a hugely special moment for our residents, as it had been so long since they had been in a Chapel, and even more special that they were able to take communion. One resident actually cried tears of joy at the end of the service because she felt so blessed to be there!
