Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who donated and came along to the Macmillan Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday. Everyone was spoilt for choice, it was also wonderful to have the support of local businesses The Cwtch, OneSixty and The Happy Little Cake Company who kindly donated doughnuts and cakes. We were so pleased to be able to support Macmillan Cancer Support.

A Glass of Wine at the Boat Club

Llys-Y-Tywysog is located in such a stunning part of South Wales we really are spoilt for choice on where to visit. Our latest trip was a visit to River View at Loughor Boating Club, it was so tranquil with some of our ladies sat having a glass of wine in this wonderful location. Enjoying the last of the summer sun, everyone agreed we couldn't have picked a better location.

Happy 90th Burthday Angela!

Happy 90th Birthday Angela! Another resident to join the 90s and 100s club at Llys-Y-Tywysog and another great party. Chris Caine sang in the morning with some classics including Shirley Bassey's Big Spender. There was then a birthday tea in the afternoon with us all enjoying the gorgeous cake. The team make every birthday special and it was another great opportunity to bring everyone together.

No Time to Siesta it is Time to Fiesta

What better place to travel to this month than Mexico. A country that Llys-Y-Tywysog residents can very much relate to there is a party at the end of all celebrations! "No time to siesta it is time to fiesta" and wow what a Fiesta. An amazing menu from Head Chef, Andy and his team, colourful decorations made by residents and fun props all made for a wonderful day.

The history is also interesting this was held on September 16th, Mexican Independance Day - on this day in 1810 Mexico was liberated from Spain.

Never too Old to Learn!

We are never too old to learn something new and Betty at 100 years young is proving this. It was Betty's first time making shortbread so Angela guided Betty through the bake.  It is always so nice to see our residents interacting together, there are such firm friendships made at Llys-Y-Tywysog.  The ladies are very fortunate David enjoys tidying up after (and of course eating the end results!)
