Activities at Lochduhar Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Sally Gilder
Sally has been in the care sector since 1998. Sally joined the Lochduhar team in 2018 as a care assistant.
Sally is very passionate about the care she provides and the welfare of the residents. Working as a care assistant Sally was able to get to know the residents wants and needs to provide excellent person centred care to each individual. Then in 2020 Sally found the opportunity to become Head of Activities. Sally feels that she provides a different side to herself to promote an active and inclusive lifestyle through her role as Head of Activities.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Lochduhar Care Home
Vegetarian for life demo
We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Halloween-inspired virtual cooking demo.
Alex demonstrated how to prepare a few themed dishes, such as root vegetable tagine, roasted butternut squash mac-n-cheese, chocolate pots with piped biscuits and flapjacks.
Our residents were delighted to be a part of this lovely virtual culinary session by tasting the vegetarian dishes from the comfort of our home.
Mocktails with Unilever
We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.
Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.
Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.
The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.
Creative writing
We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.
We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.
It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.
Silver Sunday
Silver Sunday, celebrated every year on the first Sunday of October, marks the contributions of older people to society, celebrates their happiness and wellbeing and presents an opportunity to bring generations together.
On this day, we reached out to our Pen Pals friends, families and the community, and we organised a special afternoon tea party for all residents to enjoy.
Many residents shared interesting stories from their youth and got involved in various conversations about happiness, loneliness and challenges that affect a number of older people.
It was a great day to raise awareness and to focus on community connections
Pen-pals with local nursery
Resident at Lochduhar are delighted to have been asked by Northwest Nursery to become pen pals. Our residents have been busy with their Autumnal pictures and have decided to send them to the children at Northwest Nursery, along with a letter. The residents were so pleased to receive some lovely pictures and some letters from the children in return.
Interactive Magic Table
The residents at Lochduhar have been enjoying having fun on their 'Magic Table'. The award winning innovation provides a number of fun activities designed for all residents to engage with including those living with mid to late stage dementia. It is wonderful to see the residents interact with the games and each other as they have fun. Residents enjoy sweeping the leaves and touching the flowers as they grew!
