Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Flower show comes to Lochduhar

Staff and residents at Lochduhar decided to join a virtual version of the popular horticultural show with their homemade version of the Hampton Garden Flower show, with each floor of the home creating their floral displays which were judged by General Manager, Gillian Ward and Deputy Home Manager, Kirstin Dalgarno. Everyone was a winner, with each floor receiving chocolates.

World Chocolate Day

Residents at Lochduhar revelled in all things sweet on World Chocolate Day with a range of chocolatey activities on Tuesday 7th July. Instead of cake on the menu, residents enjoyed the taste of chocolate  to get everyone’s taste buds tingling from peppermint, choc orange, white chocolate, frys cream Dark chocolate , plain chocolate, chocolate caramel buttons to choose from, what’s your favourite?

Gillian Ward General Manager said: “Our head chef loves making sweet things went down a treat. It was great to give chocolate tasting a go”

Gentleman’s club fun!

The gentlemen of Lochduhar recently gathered to enjoy an evening together for some games and socialising in one of the homes spacious lounges. The gentlemen and staff gather everyone together for some games and chat over a refreshing drink.

Many of the men choose to spend time in their room, so the staff see it as a great opportunity to get them together and encourage socialising, perhaps sparking up some friendships!     On this occasion they enjoy refreshments and nibbles whilst playing a few games of pools and look forward to their next get together.

The most popular part of their get togethers is the games and activities. Dominos is a regular occurrence, with of course different card games enjoyed by all.

A Royal Celebration

On Saturday 13th June, one of our residents made a cake for the Queen’s birthday. She really enjoyed doing this and made the cake herself from start to finish. First of all the sponge, then she whipped the cream up, and placed it nicely over the cake. She then decorated it with raspberries and strawberries and finished by placing it on cake stand. Residents in the home then enjoyed a slice of cake with an afternoon cuppa.

Blooming Lovely

Residents in the home celebrated the annual Chelsea Flower Show this year. Residents really enjoyed flower arranging different flowers in vases for each unit. They are so bright and colourful.  This activity definitely brightened up their day!

Laura Made the Cut!

Residents at Lochduhar really missed the in house hairdresser coming every week to do their hair. Residents were feeling low about their hair and told staff it would be nice if they could get it done every week. We were very lucky when one of our staff members, Laura, who used to be a hairdresser, volunteered to come in one day a week to wash, blow dry and style residents' hair for them. Residents in the home were very touched by this and had a spring in their step on the way to the hairdressers and a smile coming out!
