Activities at Lucerne House Care Home
At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.
We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.
Alex Petersen
I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.
In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.
My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Boogie at the Beach Music Festival
🌞Boogie at the Beach🌞
What a fantastic afternoon we have had at our second music festival of the year "Boogie at the Beach"
Our Memory Lane community was buzzing with energy, excitement, fun and singing as we whiled the afternoon with our favourite festival songs.
Our room was transformed into a beach festival theme, complete with banners, balloons, props and plenty of novelty items to have fun with. Residents and visitors donned their best beach, Hawaiian and festival gear and we also enjoyed refreshments and ice cream.
Thank you to our wonderful team for putting on an amazing show today, helping our residents to have a fun filled time and bringing us all together as a thriving community. We truly are blessed to have you all. It was also amazing to have Colin and Ian from Sounds Easy pop in to sing our finale song with us. We look forward to seeing them again on the last Friday of August.
In addition, thank you to all of our wonderful residents and their family members who have joined them today for making the event all it could be.
Look out for our next music festival event, later in the year.
Ten Years’ service at Barchester
Congratulations to Lalaine Limos on her 10 years of service at Barchester Healthcare.
Lalaine was presented with flowers, pin badge and her award by General Manager, Sally Coletti. Sally said "We are all so proud of Lalaine. She has been the driving force and a big contributor to the success of our Memory Lane community and to our wonderful home. We are all so proud of you and all congratulate you on this milestone achievement"
Lucerne House Ladies morning
Lucerne House ladies morning was a great success this morning.
Our home was filled with the wonderful smell of fresh pastries, fruit and sweet treats for our ladies to indulge in.
Conversation quickly turned to the recent football for the English men's team and to possibilities for the English women's team with the upcoming qualifying match. Come on the lionesses
Our ladies have also been helping to arrange some our upcoming events, with their feedback, suggestions and ideas being used to shape our in house activities programme.
It's been a great morning and we are looking forward to doing it again soon.
Lucerne House goes Digital
We are delighted to announce that we are now live with our new digital care system, Enable.
To mark this occasion, our team celebrated their amazing efforts and teamwork with a selection of cakes made by our fantastic Head Chef, spelling out "Enable", and a special cake made by Ron, Head of our Nursing Community.
Sally Coletti, General Manager, said, "We are delighted to go live today and want to thank the team who have worked hard over the past few weeks preparing the system and our residents' care plans."
Our new system, "Enable", is an e-care system that supports documentation at the point of care electronically, not only saving paper but also allowing more time to spend with our residents.
Here's to the future at Lucerne, with Enable and our digital success.
Supporting our Community
We are delighted to gather each week at Chatterbox Café with our community, where our homemade cakes are always popular – there wasn't a single slice left this time! It's a lovely way to spend a morning, and we're grateful to be part of such a wonderful community.
During our visit to Chatterbox, we had the pleasure of catching up with Roseanna Wills, the Church and Community worker for St Michael's Alphington.
Roseanna organised a sale in support of "Begin Well Antenatal Classes" at the church, featuring table-top sales, refreshments, and a raffle. Among the various prizes, Roseanna kindly asked if we could contribute one of our nappy cakes to the raffle. We were thrilled to help and immediately began assembling our nappy cake for the event.
We hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and we trust that the recipient of our nappy cake was delighted with it.
Doughnut Week
Our home was full of sweet treats as we kicked off Doughnut Week.
We started with a doughnut and coffee morning, sampling various flavours from Krispy Kreme and even challeged ourselves to the very difficult 'try not to lick your lips while eating a doughnut' challenge. It sounded easy but it proved to be very tricky and the temptation to lick your lips once the sugar had touched them was all too much for most.
In between, we managed to squeeze in a game or two on our Rainbow table.
In the afternoon, in acknowledgement of Dementia Action Week, our Memory Lane community took part in one of their favourite activities, pizza making. It's a great way to stimulate conversation, social inclusion and creativity, all while filling the environment with the wonderful smell of fresh pizza baking which really gets the appetite going.
Our residents, visitors and team members had a great day, full of tasty food and fun, whilst making great memories together.
It was also a delight to have Matilda, daughter of Alex from our activities team, join us for the day. Matilda has been a tremendous help with all our events, and our residents were thrilled to welcome her back, sharing stories and participating in activities together.
