Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Life at Lucerne House Care Home

Deck the Halls

Deck the Halls

Everyone had a great time on Friday 1st December as we decorated Lucerne House for Christmas. Residents, relatives and staff have all contributed and have all brought a great sense of Christmas cheer to the home. Ron Jampil (Head of Ide Unit) finished off his tree by putting the star on top. We can now look forward to the many different Christmas activities going on at our home over the next few weeks.

Christmas Panto

Everyone at Lucerne House had a fantastic time on Thursday 30th November. We were joined by the amazing 'Dally About the Bush' theatre company, who gave a fantastic performance of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. There was laughter, singing and a real buzz of excitement in the air as we laughed our way into the festive season.

We are all looking forward to seeing the group again when they bring their summer show to us in the new year.

Alphington Players Pantomime

Alphington Players Pantomime

Lucerne House were happy to support the Alphington Players with their recent pantomime performance of Aladdin, which was on shown on 24th and 25th November.

Alex Petersen, Head of Activities at Lucerne House, was playing the evil villain, Abanazer, who was hell bent on capturing the lamp from deep within the cave.

The performances have been the most profitable since the group started raising money for the local community, and were very well received by all who watched. The group have been going for 25 years and, since, 1997 have raised £34,000, which has all gone back into the local community and community organisations.

We congratulate all involved on a successful show and hope we can support them again next year.

Fireworks Night

Fireworks Night

There was lots of excitement at Lucerne House on Thursday 2nd November; everyone braved the winter chill in the air to enjoy our annual fireworks display. We were joined by the Alphington Scouts and their leader, Chris Webb. Everyone had a fantastic time and are looking forward to our display next year.

A Frightful Event

A Frightful Event

Lucerne House have really enjoyed getting into the spirit of Halloween this year. We did pumpkin carving on Monday 30th October and then put those on display for our Halloween party the next day. We enjoyed spooky treats, ghostly games and a Halloween-themed quiz.

A Day at Exeter Museum

A Day at Exeter Museum

Two residents really enjoyed their trip to Exeter Museum recently. They took in all there was to see and even donned a couple of helmets.
