Activities at Lucerne House Care Home
At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.
We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.
Alex Petersen
I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.
In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.
My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Life at Lucerne House Care Home
Sounds Festive
Residents, relatives and staff had a fantastic time with Colin and Ian from 'Sounds Easy' in December. The duo treated us to selection of festive songs that really got us in the mood for Christmas.
Filipino Exeter Choir
We all had a great time in December, with many different festive events taking place in our home. One of the highlights was when the Filipino Exeter Choir performed for us. Ron Jampil (Head of Ide Community) offered the choir's services and he was joined by colleague, Jamie Tayo (Care Assistant), his wife and two children, as well as other members of the choir. Everyone said how wonderful it was and we hope to welcome them all back to perform with us in 2018.
Festive Quiz
Everyone needed their thinking hats on for our festive quiz in December. Jan Taylor, from our activities team, donned her festive apparel and put residents through their paces with a whole host of Christmas-themed questions. There was a buffet prior to the quiz taking place and everyone has said what a great night it was.
We run our quiz nights throughout the year on each Tuesday evening from 6:15 p.m., and they are a very popular activity here at Lucerne House. Everyone is welcome, so if you feel up to the challenge and would like to join us, don’t hesitate to drop in!
Christmas Baking
Residents helped to plan the type of cake and what sort of design and decorations we would use. The cake tasted wonderful and we were all very proud of the finished product. Well done to all who took part!
Christmas Festivities
On Friday 15th December, Lucerne House took part in Christmas Jumper Day. Residents, relatives and staff all donned their festive apparel and there were some truly remarkable designs and patterns.
One of the winners was Senior Carer, Erika Loman, who wore a jumper that had motion sensitive flashing lights. Everyone had a great time and we finished the day off with a mulled wine and minced pie tea party, which had live music, and festive treats.
Thanks to everyone who attended and took part.
A Festive Performance
Our Memory Lane community was filled with festive cheer and warm spirits as we whiled away the afternoon with a performance from the LaLa Choir on Sunday 10th December.
The choir group have been joining us for the past 7 years and we always look forward to hearing their wonderful voices. Residents were singing along and even dancing at times. The group then stayed with us to enjoy mince pies and festive treats.
