Activities at Lucerne House Care Home

At Lucerne House our person-centred activity programme has been tailored to suit the residents living in our home. It is constantly developing due to the direct feedback from our residents and enables them to take part in existing hobbies and new tasks that aim to stimulate creativity, intellect, physical ability and improve well being. With music groups, pub outings, cooking, gardening, one to one time, entertainers, quiz's, bingo and more, there is never a shortage of things to do.

We also have external providers who visit the home. We have Rachel Sherring who provides Yoga Sessions, Lorrain Christopher who is available every Wednesday and Thursday for hair appointments in our on site salon, Sharon Rees who visits on a Wednesday to provide massage therapy sessions in the comfort of your chair and regular Church Services which do include a monthly Holy Communion. We are always open to new suggestions, so if you do have any, our activities team will always be happy to listen.

Alex Petersen

Activities Coordinator

I have been at Lucerne House since November 2011. I started in the kitchen before moving to the Activities Team. I have a background in music and theatre and was very happy to be able to share this with residents in the home. After a short while, I was promoted to Head of Activities, and earned my NAPA level 2 qualification in Activity Provision.

In the role of Head of Activities, I am focused on ensuring that residents can continue to enjoy existing hobbies and interests, but also pursue new avenues of stimulation and activity. I am always looking to bring new experiences and means of engagement to the home, be that through massage therapy, yoga, engaging with the local community or many other things. At Lucerne House, our person-centred approach allows us to make every resident feel valued and comfortable enough to express themselves however they see fit.

My goal is to ensure that every person living at Lucerne House feels confident enough to make independent decisions and that each of them have a robust choice of activities and interests to engage with. I am always open to suggestions, so if you do have any, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Burn's Night at Lucerne House

Happy Burns Night to you all. Lucerne House has had a very busy day. We started at 9am with husband and wife, Rodney and Sheila, making Cranachan, a traditional Scottish pudding.

After this, residents spent the rest of the morning, reciting poems and sharing some traditional Scottish poems, written by Robert Burns with a hot drink, delicious cake and of course, Scottish short bread.

For lunch, our Head Chef, Darren Knockton, prepared a traditional Haggis Dish with potatoes, swede and peas which was followed by the pudding, Cranachan, our residents made.

To round off the day, Residents enjoyed a glass of fizz and took part in a Burns Themed quiz which came courtesy of Oomph Wellness.

Our residents have had a great day and have really enjoyed all of the Burns and Scottish themed festivities. Thanks to everyone in the kitchen, the care teams and activities staff for making it extra special.

Chinese New Year

To mark Chinese New Year at Lucerne House, residents have been putting their culinary expertise to the test by making a homemade Chinese chicken curry with egg fried rice and spring rolls.

Our residents had a great time cooking the meal and taste testing the sauce, multiple times, to get the exact balance of spices.

We would like to wish all those, celebrating Chinese New Year, which is the year of the rabbit, a Happy New Year!

Birthday Celebrations

We have had a lovely day at Lucerne House today. After a morning of scrap booking we moved onto our next planned activities. In the afternoon our memory lane community have been brightening up the environment with flower arranging while Brenda and Roy enjoyed a trip to our local Starbucks for coffee and cake. This evening, to celebrate Brenda, one of our residents birthday, residents all got together for a lovely KFC takeaway and birthday cake made by our amazing Head Chef, Darren.

We've got lots more to enjoy this week including cooking, countdown, our new puzzle club and a trip to Chatterbox Cafe.

Lucerne House Scrap Book Club

Happy New year to all from everyone at Lucerne House. We have been busy since the start of 2023, exercising, cooking, singing and enjoying the New Year's festivities.

To help us remember all of the fun we have had last year, we have started a scrap book. Everyone has enjoyed creating themed pages and looking back through old photo's which has prompted lots of conversation and laughter.

Our scrap booking club will be meeting each fortnight to continue our pages and reminisce about the fun we have had.

Virtual Christmas Jumper Competition

Thank you to everyone who entered into our Virtual Christmas Jumper Competition. Our residents had a wonderful time, looking through all of the entries and picking the five lucky winners. They thought everyone looked amazing and if it had been possible, would have given you all a prize.

This is the second year of running the Virtual Christmas Jumper event and it continued to be a great way for our home to have some extra festive cheer and connect with our local community.

Christmas Performance at Lucerne House

This Christmas we enjoyed something extra special at Lucerne House, as our Ide community lounge/dining room was transformed into a shoe workshop for The Dot Collective performance of "The Elves and the Shoemaker".

We had a great time, helping to decorate the tree, singing along to the songs and having a good laugh. Each resident was given a hat to keep and a lovely Christmas card to display in their rooms. Our residents were absolutely spell bound by the performance and have not stopped talking about it all day.

Thank you to the The Dot Collective for joining us today. We can’t wait to welcome you back to us in 2023
