Activities at Lynde House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators get a real buzz off their work here as enthusiasm is essential for the role. We decorate and celebrate for all the big annual events, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mothering Sunday and much more. There are also regular fixtures in our activities programme, including bingo, a sherry morning and quizzes, that are always well-attended. There's also an International Day that we hold to celebrate the wonderful ethnic diversity of our staff, where members of our team and their families give up their time to showcase their national costumes, dances and songs. Of course, we also have activities and services tailored to those residents who prefer the quiet life, such manicures or simply a friendly chat and a cup of tea. We always do our best to learn about residents' hobbies and interests and try to arrange our activities programme around their individual likes and dislikes.

Care Award Celebrations!

Lynde House celebrated today with a long standing member of their nursing team who was a runner up in the finals for ‘Nurse of the Year’ in the South Division Barchester Care Awards.

Premalatha, known as ‘Prem’ to residents and colleagues has been a member of the nursing team for nearly 10 years and always wanted to be a nurse. Having qualified in 1995 she said: “The team at Lynde House are friendly and very professional, I really enjoy my work here”.

The awards celebrate staff and volunteers who go the extra mile for the benefit of individuals living in Barchester care homes. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Team of the Year’. Staff at the home have twice won ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ with Ridel Francisco, unit manager, a winner in 2018 who also recently celebrated 15 years at Lynde House.

More than 2,800 nominations were received from homes, residents, staff and relatives across the UK this year. All entries have been of a very high standard with a number of nominations for individual staff members and the team at Lynde House so certificates and gifts were presented by Alison McIntosh, General Manager.

Like many other award ceremonies the final was held ‘virtually’ this year with all Barchester homes streaming the event live for residents and staff. Recognising the Lynde House team for their commitment and hard work during the year which has brought a number of new challenges it was certainly a reason to celebrate for the nominees.

Colourful card for Grandparents Day!

We gave the children at Twickenham Park Day Nursery cards to colour or paint and gift on grandparents day this Sunday, they kindly presented our residents with a card with a very colourful owls on the front. Thank you to Guy and the team, residents are looking forward to receiving a bumper delivery of cards for Christmas in December!

We all enjoy a little pampering!

Jean enjoyed pamper with us in the hairdressing salon and what better way to see the change than before and after pics! A glass of wine added to the occasion, here at Lynde House residents still appreciate a regular appointment in the salon within the safety of their home. We are open for new residents for short or longer stays so please do contact us for more information – virtual tours available from the comfort of your armchair

‘Virtual hugs’ and elbow bumps!

We are all so conscious of the new guidelines for physical contact it prompted a discussion with residents and staff on how we can still show our affection and greet friends. Much laughter was had over the morning with gestures, body language and facial expressions all replacing the usual hugs and handshakes!

Our team which includes a number of nationalities demonstrated to residents their traditional way of greeting and welcoming friends so we all learnt something new.

Art in our home today!

We are celebrating National Art in Care Home Day today which focuses on how we connect residents with art and craft in the community. Our resident John expressed interest in charcoal drawing which he did at ETNA community centre before coming to live at Lynde House and today he was joined by another resident to continue his art, we will be making this a regular activity - we love helping residents reconnect with activities they enjoy
