Activities at Lynde House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators get a real buzz off their work here as enthusiasm is essential for the role. We decorate and celebrate for all the big annual events, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mothering Sunday and much more. There are also regular fixtures in our activities programme, including bingo, a sherry morning and quizzes, that are always well-attended. There's also an International Day that we hold to celebrate the wonderful ethnic diversity of our staff, where members of our team and their families give up their time to showcase their national costumes, dances and songs. Of course, we also have activities and services tailored to those residents who prefer the quiet life, such manicures or simply a friendly chat and a cup of tea. We always do our best to learn about residents' hobbies and interests and try to arrange our activities programme around their individual likes and dislikes.

2nd Teddington Scouts write to residents

Residents were delighted to receive cards and letters from 2nd Teddington Scouts, organised by Claire, the group wrote about trips they have enjoyed and more they are looking forward to in 2021. Showing interest in our residents is heart-warming and during our coffee morning this week prompted reminiscence of their Scouting and Brownie days. We hope in the future the group can visit us to meet residents and everyone can share their experiences, thank you to Claire, the group leader who organised the letters and is working so hard to keep the group going during the current restrictions.

Birthday Celebrations!

Tony celebrated his birthday with friends and everyone raised their glass of bubbly with a special toast, all within the safety and comfort of the visiting suite. Although we have a screen in place it really is like being in the same room to chat and share memories, plus there was a wonderful birthday cake!

Residents receive the first round of the Coronavirus vaccine

Residents were delighted to receive the first round of the Coronavirus vaccine without leaving the home along with a number of staff last week. Dr Flynn, from Hampton Wick Surgery who led the vaccinations had already administered the vaccine to staff who visited the surgery before Christmas.

General Manager, Alison McIntosh said: “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel. Dr Flynn visits the home every week to see residents so they know him well, they felt comfortable and reassured at all times so we are so grateful for his support.”

The second round of vaccination will be administered at a later date, resident John said: “I am so pleased to be given the vaccine.  It will help to keep us safe”.

#LoveThroughTheLetterbox

Residents delighted at today’s coffee morning chat in the handmade cards received as part of Richmond Council’s #LoveThroughTheLetterbox Christmas campaign. We all admired the creative talents of the children from King’s House Nursery, Thomson House, St Edmunds Catholic Primary, Buckingham Primary, Old Vicarage School and other kind individuals.

A very BIG thank you to Fenna Maynard from Richmond Council for coordinating the cards out to care homes and those living alone for whom Christmas cards will bring joy this week

Our Christmas 'Jackanory' reading

Tony, our resident ambassador has stepped into the role of ‘Jackanory' reader this week with a short reading from Mog’s Christmas by Judith Kerr, we will post daily on our Facebook page, @barchesterlyndehouse, at 4.25pm as this was the time the BBC programme would be broadcast to Children all over the UK for over 30 years!
