Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Residents, staff and visitors at Marriott House & Lodge held a charity coffee morning on Friday 28th September to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

We managed to raise over £80.00 and, most importantly, everyone had a lot of fun doing it! The residents made some cakes with the help of the activities team and some staff also donated cakes, which were enjoyed during the coffee morning.

Eating Wisely

Eating Wisely

We held our monthly Fruity Friday event. This included staff and residents dressing in bright clothes and the afternoon included Smoothie making and a quiz!

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day

To celebrate Grandparents Day on Friday 5th October, we welcomed First Steps Childcare to spend some time with residents, many of whom are grandparents (or great grandparents!). The children brought with them some craft activities, which they enjoyed doing with the residents; they coloured in fire engine pictures and made faces on paper plates.

Alba wanted to give her masterpieces to Gay, one of the residents, and Logan wanted to give his to Peggy. The children and residents then enjoyed sharing a story and singing some songs together.

Summer Fête

Summer Fête

On Saturday 8th September, Marriott House and Lodge hosted its annual Summer Fête.

Young and old came together for an afternoon of community fun. Residents, relatives and visitors were entertained with an afternoon of musical entertainment. with many singing along and even some impromptu dancing!

The afternoon also included various stalls, games, a tombola, refreshments and a raffle. The whole afternoon allowed us to raise over £550 for the residents' social activity fund.

Anna Chaplaincy Service

Anna Chaplaincy Service

On Tuesday 25th September, residents, relatives, staff and friends joined together for a short service by the Anna Chaplaincy team, which was followed by a delicious afternoon tea. The Anna Chaplaincy team continues to visit the home regularly and offer spiritual and emotional support to residents and staff.

National Cupcake Week

National Cupcake Week

National Cupcake Week (17th-23rd  September) has been a real treat at Marriott House and Lodge Care, where sweet-toothed staff and residents couldn’t wait to get out their aprons and mixing bowls for the occasion.

The week, organised by the British Baker magazine, is a celebration of all things cupcake and is the perfect excuse to get everybody together for a baking session or a cake decorating class.

Baking is a much-loved hobby for many people who live and work at Marriott House and Lodge, so it’s no surprise that the week was full of excitement and creativity.

On Tuesday 18th September, a cupcake tasting afternoon was organised. The afternoon was enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors alike.

On Wednesday 19th September, a cupcake-themed quiz afternoon was organised and attended by many. Everyone also got to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea.

On Thursday 20th September, we hosted a cupcake competition. During the morning, staff and residents made cupcakes and decorated them. The competition took place in the afternoon; the judges included Denise Viviers (Senior Deputy Manager/Clinical Lead), Irene Pudduck (Deputy Manager), Lizzy Grant (Admin Assistant) and Kate Sampson (Senior Team Leader)!  After lots of deliberation, certificates and prizes were given out for most Creative Design and Best Tasting Cupcake!
