Activities at Newington Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.

Life at Newington Court Care Home

Autumn Arts & Crafts

We have been busy looking at items picked up at the park – leaves, acorns, pine cones and chestnuts. The smell reminds us of days at the woods walking the dog or playing with the grandchildren. We then painted our own leaves for an autumn display.

Autumn Has Arrived

Autumn has arrived at Newington Court! We reminisced over our time in the woods or park whilst rummaging through leaves, acorns, chestnuts and pine cones. The smell took us back to dog walking or playing in the park. We later recreated the colours of the leaves with paint ready for an autumnal display!

Beach Day

In early September, we held our summer fair with an old English beach day theme. We had traditional fish and chips in newspaper cones, ice cream and candy floss.

We played games like tin can alley, ping pong toss, hook-a-duck and pin the tail on the donkey! We also had a sand pit and reminisced about the childhood feeling of sand between our fingers whilst building sand castles. The sun didn’t shine on us but luckily it stayed warm and dry.

Musical Entertainment

We have been enjoying musical entertainment with Mike Akhurst who sang for us whilst playing his guitar. We sang along and danced the afternoon away!

Getting Creative

We have been learning about jewellery findings; lobster clasps, jump rings and double ended connectors. We had a go at making friendship bracelets; it was a little tricky at first, but we managed it with a little help from our lovely activities coordinator.

The Newington Olympics

We have been taking part in Newington Court’s own Olympics! We had an opening ceremony with the Olympic torch, played basketball, badminton and table tennis. The staff even had a mini tournament. We had a great time.
