Activities at Newington Court Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.

Life at Newington Court Care Home
Music for the Soul
At Newington Court, we welcome live entertainers in almost every week. In January, residents have been entertained by Joy, Rob and ‘Elvis’. Music is so important to residents, especially those living with dementia. It is wonderful to see toes tapping and their reactions when songs bring back precious memories.
Remembrance Day
Residents knitted poppies and created this display in recognition of Remembrance Day, which is on show in our local church. Residents also attended a service on the day.
Remembrance Parade
On 28th October, we were visited by the 1039 Gillingham Sqn ATC Cadets of Gillingham.
They performed a remembrance service for residents and laid a wreath in front of our new planter. Resident, Mr. Pack read out a poem by Laurence Binyon. Afterwards they joined us for some sandwiches and light refreshments.
Residents have been knitting poppies that have been used on our remembrance wall, which shows the details of all of the Newington men who died during World War One.
On November 11th, we are going to see the parade in Sittingbourne and lay a wreath of our poppies.
Surprise Hen Party
We hosted a surprise hen party for one of our Senior Carers. Residents planned the afternoon with the activity team – and it was a huge success!
Staff, residents and guests commemorated this special occasion with glasses of wine and entertainment. Holly gets married on 16th June 2018, and is going to be featured on Say Yes to the Dress UK.
Valentine's Day
Valentines Day was celebrated at Newington Court with residents and their loved ones, who enjoyed a coffee morning. This was followed in the afternoon with entertainment from Glenda, who dressed as the Queen of Hearts. Everyone joined in with the singing and had a thoroughly good time.
An Entertaining Evening
Staff and relative's children joined residents for an afternoon of cake decorating and a movie. The children also visited some less mobile residents so that they could join in the fun. A movie and popcorn followed to end an afternoon of fun and laughter.
