Activities at Oaklands Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Oaklands Care Home

Seaside Visit

We have been lucky enough to visit the lovely seaside town off Felixstowe. Although the weather wasn’t really on our side, we still managed to sit outside to eat our fish and chips.

We walked along the seafront and stopped to watched a retired gentleman who uses the power of his bicycle to carve wood. It was very interesting to watch and Margaret had lots of questions for him.

To finish off our day, we got to see the big shipping container boats coming into port and one being unloaded by the cranes, whilst enjoying a cup of tea.

Zoo Trip

What a wonderful time we all had at the zoo; we visited twice in September, and both times we enjoyed.

Residents favourite animals were the red pandas and the naughty monkeys! Although they were naughty, they were very well trained, which we were lucky enough to see as the zoo keeper showed us some off their training.

A picnic lunch was also mentioned as a highlight for the residents.

Bespoke Activities

Individual activities are a massive part of our activity calendar here at Oaklands, so we are able to tailor the activity to the residents' choices.

We do all sorts of things from painting, flower arranging, making bread to just having a simple chat, eating ice-cream together and walking in the garden.

,

Tea Party

We held a tea party to help celebrate and raise money for our NHS Charity. We invited families to join us for cake in the gardens and raised just under £60 for the charity.

,

Bottisham Air Museum

We had a wonderful afternoon at our local Airfield Museum. George and Margaret reminisced about past times and Margeret even got to sit in a cockpit. George spoke with the owner and all the volunteers about the aircraft that he was an engineer on.

Beer Tasting

As part of National Beer Day, our gentleman’s group decided to taste some beers and, as it was a lovely sunny day, we started this in the courtyard. We continued this into the evening with a pub quiz and more beer tasting. Some said they slept well that night.
