Activities at Oaklands Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Mother's Day

On the 17th March it was St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of the patron saint of Ireland and all things Irish. In the morning we got in to the spirit by making some beautiful Shamrock sun catchers and we got to enjoy some delicious Irish snacks.

In the afternoon, we took part in the green-themed quiz, accompanied by some traditional Irish music and then followed by some very tasty Irish coffees.

Everyone had a wonderful day!

Chocolate Donation

We recently received an amazing amount of delicious chocolates from John Lewis in Cambridge from their community engagement lady, Christine.

Our Activities Coordinator had reached out to her and was extremely grateful to receive a huge selection. The activity team have delivered parcels of goodies to the local primary school.

Our sister Barchester home, Hilton Park, and various other local groups. All staff received a box and the residents have enjoyed various chocolate tasting sessions.

Valentine's Crafts

We have had some wonderful craft sessions all themed around Valentine's Day. We have discussed all things that we love, including loved ones past and present. This has provoked some emotions, but we all shared these moments together.

Epilepsy Action

We had a fabulous day supporting Epilepsy Action by wearing purple. We enjoyed a purple themed tea party in reception with purple balloons and flowers. Residents enjoyed balloon games and a purple cake, followed by a lovely cup of tea. Staff participated in a raffle and a guessed the name of the bear. Families and the local community also took part by wearing purple and buying raffle tickets.

Musical Bingo

We had great fun playing musical bingo with a small group of residents. We also had staff getting competitive, which was great. Thanks to Reginald and Margaret, we were able to guess the songs from the tunes. Lots of fun was had by all!

Community Engagement Tree

We at Oaklands enjoyed decorating our tree in our Willow community by using the whole home and community to come together to make different decorations, all linked to the famous Christmas song, 12 Days of Christmas.

Residents were an important part of the whole designing stage and lots of singing the song to re-cap our memories.

Our activity team contacted the local school, WI group and our baby and toddler group, and all parties were really happy to take part and helped us create our wonderful tree that we are all so proud.
