Activities at Oaklands Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!
Anna Bate & Jo Lawn
Anna is our Activity Lead. She started working at Barchester over 14 years ago at our sister home Hilton Park. Having built strong relationships with staff, residents and families, Anna brings lots of fun to our home. Anna loves to sing, dance and laugh and generally brings oodles of joy to ours days.
Working alongside Anna is Jo who started her career here at Oaklands as a carer on Elms community in 2014 developing a passion for dementia care and completing her social care N+VQ Levels 2 and 3. Jo Joined the activity team 3 years ago and has since become the homes dementia champion, championing for a better lifestyle for our resident through staff training and regular audits.

Life at Oaklands Care Home
Remembrance Day Service
As part of Hilton Park and Oakland's Remembrance Day activities, residents from both homes came together to remember those who have fallen in battle. Leading up to Remembrance Day, residents and staff created a stunning poppy dress, which truly set off our Remembrance Day display. Residents also painted beautiful pictures of poppies. We held a Remembrance Day service and The Last Post was played.
Harvest Festival
Residents and relatives enjoyed a Harvest Festival and communion service, which was conducted by our local vicar, the Rev. Sue Giles.
Harvest Festival is an annual celebration to mark the end of the main harvest season and a time to give thanks for the crops that have been grown.
Garden Centre Visit
Residents loved visiting our local garden centre. They like to purchase plants for their rooms and sample the tea and cakes on sale in the café.
Summer Fair
Residents, families, friends and staff enjoyed beautiful sunny weather at our Summer Fair. We were entertained by a singing duo and a ukulele band. There were various stalls and side shows and the local Air Cadets joined us with their Toy Tombola.
As always, our cake stall proved to be very popular and our now famous sausage rolls sold out very quickly!
Everybody commented on the happy and relaxed atmosphere, and especially enjoyed watching Judith, our General Manager, throw wet sponges at Narcis, our Deputy Manager, when he was in the stocks.
10 Years of Service
Congratulations from us all to Florefe Dionisio, who celebrated 10 years’ service with Barchester Healthcare recently. Florefe has also recently been promoted to the position of Care Practioner. She is a valued member of our team and we would be lost without her.
Flower Arranging
Residents at Oaklands love to do a bit of flower arranging every now and then. During our most recent session, the flowers were arranging in jam jars and tea cups. What a pretty display they made!
