Activities at Orchard House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Orchard House Care Home

Garden Visits

For some residents at Orchard House, the long-awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home. There has been much careful planning and preparation for this moment.

It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart due to following strict government guidance. Residents and their relatives enjoyed getting together in the home’s garden and the garden was full of joy and chatter and laughter.

Carers week celebrated with 'thank you' cupcakes

Orchard House Care Centre held a day of celebrations to thank care staff at the home, who make a real difference to the lives of those in their care.

Staff were treated to some wonderful ‘thank you’ cupcakes, kindly donated from Cake Delights, The Island’s Home Bakery and lots of chocolates treats too.

Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK, which now, is more important than ever. Carers have a vital job in the care of residents throughout the home, and form very special bonds with the people they look after. They are the day-to-day face of our home, working directly with residents and families to ensure the very best quality care and support is given.

Gaynor Rheaf, General Manager said: “I am very proud of the carers at Orchard House. In light of the current situation our carers have continued to work tirelessly to provide high quality, personalised care to the people living in our homes, and often go above and beyond the call of duty, which has a huge impact on people’s lives. They offer friendship and comfort to residents and their relatives, during what can be a very emotional time. We appreciate the work they do all year round, and especially in these unprecedented times”.

Celebrations at Orchard House really took the biscuit

Whether you’re a die-hard Digestive fan, a Ginger Nut, or go crazy for a Custard Cream, National Biscuit Day, celebrated on May 29th, is the perfect day for you. And it was certainly a day of fun filled biscuit dunking, for the staff and residents at Orchard House care centre in Newport.

To mark the celebration of the nation’s favourite biscuits, residents tucked into a variety of their favourite’s, which of course, were paired with a good old cup of tea. There was much fun to be had taking part in a Biscuit related quiz with a big biscuit hamper up for grabs for the winner. Residents also got the chance to share a cuppa and biccy with the team.  Our amazing nurse Emma Sutton and brilliant Carol King, made homemade biscuits which included bourbons, jammie dodgers, shortbread which as you can see looked amazing and tasted even better.

Gaynor Rhead, General Manager at Orchard House Care Centre said: “Tea and biscuits is a quintessentially British treat, and it was the perfect excuse to come together and have a bit of fun. Not that anyone needed too much persuasion! We are continually adapting, and finding new ways to make sure every effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst adhering to social distancing advice.

Positivity 'Rocks' at Orchard House

Residents at Orchard House created a colourful display of positivity rocks, some featuring rainbows, animals and words of kindness, all hand painted during a recent crafting session.

The point of the stones is to sprinkle positivity around your community, the decorated stones were then placed around the home to bring joy and brighten up our day!
