Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Zumba before a Trip to Italy!

Wednesday morning's exercise class came via zoom with Zumba Fitness with Kerstin. Our residents simply love shaking their bodies and the pom-poms to her armchair movements!

We celebrated 'Italian Republic Day' in the afternoon with another large screen cinematic experience in our frist floor lounge, with our resident’s choosing to mark the occasion by watching 'Journey to Italy' the 1954 Ingrid Bergman and George Sanders film about an English married couples eventful trip to Italy.

Musical Moments on Memory Lane

The Overslade House musical band has reformed. Our Memory Lane residents had fun exploring the sounds produced by each instrument, with lots of laughter and dancing to the beat! You're definitely never too old to learn new things.

Target Practice!

Watch your back! Our residents have been enjoying the sunny weather with a little target practice. Shooting at the target... and passing staff! It's such a fun activity, they've asked to make it a regular event.

A Big Welcome Back to LIVE Entertainment

We have started to welcome back 'live' entertainment at Overslade House. Our first singer to perform was the beautiful Kyle Newman from Leicester Musical Memory Box

Our residents have enjoyed Kyle’s weekly virtual singing sessions, during her Monday afternoon link ups. However, seeing and hearing her sing from the garden was extra special.

The sun shone and our memory lane residents thoroughly enjoyed singing and dancing along with Kyle as she performed some well-known tunes from across the decades. What a fabulous day for us all - thank you Kyle.

Floral Gifts of Thanks from DHL Rugby

Our hardworking staff we’re overwhelmed to receive multiple bunches, and bouquets of fresh M&S flowers yesterday, from the community engagement team at DHL Rugby based at Valley Point. The random act of kindness, organised by Trudie Seers, First Line Manager at DHL Rugby came as a complete surprise to the team at Overslade House.

Trudie and her colleague Sally decided to start the Bank Holiday weekend in a sunshine way by gifting these beautiful florals to Healthcare Workers in the Rugby area, as a ‘Big Thank You’ for all their efforts in continuing to protect and care for members of our local community.

We cannot thank DHL Rugby enough for this amazing gift of flowers; enough for every member of the team, it certainly brightened our day, and warmed our hearts.
