Activities at Overslade House Care Home
Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.
At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.
We definitely have something for everyone!
Julie Bateman
Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.
I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.
I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!
Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Life at Overslade House Care Home
Jigsaws in the Sun
Yesterday Denisa and our residents had fun in the sun, taking some of our 1:1 activities outside; completing a jigsaw together is a great way of 'getting to know you' and make friends.
It was wonderful to see long may the sunshine last!
Garden Flower Foraging
Denisa took advantage of the summer sun to take our residents into the garden for some flower foraging. They handpicked various colourful flower heads and foliage before returning inside to make beautiful collages for pressing. They're going to look amazing once framed and on display. We are always looking for new and exciting activities for our residents to try, if you have any ideas, please email the Activities Team on Overslade.activities@barchester.com
Celebrating our Wonderful Carers'
Residents at Overslade House care home celebrated National Carers’ Week, which took place last week; from June 7-13. They wanted to thank all the wonderful staff at the home, whose hard work and dedication make a real difference to the lives of those living in their care.
Carers Week is an annual event to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges carers face, and recognising the contribution they make to our residents, families and communities throughout the UK. The theme for Carers Week this year is ‘Making caring visible and valued’ - to shine a light on all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for vulnerable people in our communities.
Staff were treated to a sweet treat of Lindt chocolates and Thank You card, delivered by various residents across all communities. General Manager, Violeta said: “It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate Carers Week and thank our fantastic carers Life is getting back to normal now and our residents and staff would be pleased to welcome you for a show round of our beautiful home."

The residents and staff at Overslade House had the honour of wishing John Farringdon at our sister home Barchester Healthcare in Cubbington, a very Happy 108th Birthday on Monday 7th June.
We were able to take a minibus trip over with his card, and to enjoy the celebrations just in time to see the surprise of the day arrive c/o Jason Philpott from Ford UK The Henry Ford Academy Training College in Daventry a sparkling new; Mustang Mach-E: Ford’s first all-electric SUV.
John was over the moon to see this extra special vehicle and take to the driving seat!

National Fish & Chips Day
On National Fish & Chip Day on Fryday 4th June, we decided it would surely be one of the best days of the year to visit The Friendly BenchⓇ in Hillmorton. They have long awaited this journey, having linked with and the Friends of East Rugby Group - FERG back in February for their Valentines celebrations.
Whilst their fellow residents tucked into Chef’s special fish & chips for lunch at Barchester’s Overslade House care home a small group took the opportunity to travel and visit The Friendly BenchⓇ.
With a quick stop off at Hillmorton Fish Saloon for the freshly prepared fish & chips to 'take-away'. The minibus parked up at the friendly bench, which is located near the entrance to English Martyrs Church on High Street, Hillmorton.
As the sun shone our residents sat back on the bench to eat their lunch. The Friendly BenchⓇ is an innovative community garden to help tackle loneliness and social isolation. The bench provides the local community with such a beautiful place to meet up and relax, surrounded by amazing florals tended by group of volunteers who work very hard to bring this special place to life for the community of Hillmorton. Our residents had a wonderful time watching the world go by.
Alma and Fiona, two of our activities coordinators at Overslade House commented: “We’ve all had such a lovely day. We met with Jill Dwyer, Chair Friends of East Rugby Group (FERG) at the bench and she gave our residents an update on all the plants and plans for the bench. We’re looking forward to bring more of our residents here throughout the summer – although today you can’t beat fish & chips!”
