Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

First Day Trip of 2021

What a difference a day out makes! On Monday we had our first resident minibus excursion in over a year.

It was such an exciting time for the group. They decided we should visit The Boat Restaurant & Bar to view the canal and passing barges heading to and from Stockton locks. Our residents really enjoyed the route through Dunchurch, where Doreen remarked on how things have changed over the years. She recalled having many a lovely lunch with her husband at The Dun Cow, and walking around Draycote Water.

We were very lucky with the good old British weather and managed to park up and take a seat outside The Boat between rain showers. The pub location is so beautiful; we’ll definitely be back for lunch once the weather improves, next time bringing some snacks for its visiting ducks!

VE Day Remembered

Due to the typical British weather the Overslade activities team had to postpone Saturday's 'live' outdoor entertainer, the lovely 'Lee Spangle' until later in the month. Our activities team didn't let that stop them brining the 1940's to our residents. They set up a large screen and played the historical Winston Churchill speech followed by news reels and coverage of the street party celebrations from VE Day 76 years ago.

We listened to wartime tunes, and waved our flags to the beat of the music. The afternoon finished with High Tea across the communities with homemade scones, fresh cream and jam provided by our wonderful chef. A good time was had my all, you could hear the residents still humming along as they returned to their rooms.

Salon Pamper Session

Our hand and nail pamper session took place in the homes’ beauty salon; with aromatic senses and relaxing music, our ladies settled back to be treated to a hand massage and polish of their choice. Alma and Fiona gave them such a 5* experience, the appointments for next week are full!

Flower Display Donation

It was such a delight to receive an unexpected delivery of fresh flowers, lovingly arranged and donated by 'Jayne Edmonds Floral Designs'.

Following Jaynes' virtual flower arranging session last night, she decided to graciously donate her creations to the residents and staff of Overslade House care home in Rugby. National Flower Arranging Day is tomorrow; 7th May and we will certainly try our best to mirror her designs. They are truly beautiful, smell wonderful, and have brightened our hearts and communal areas - Thank you so much Jayne.

Wookie Cookie Creations

On Star Wars Day our Memory Lane cookery group took on the challenge of making some marvellous ‘Wookie’ cookies. Our ladies enjoyed the mixing and creative elements, but above all they loved eating them! Plenty of “umm…they’re delicious.”

Oh Snap! It's Raining

What better way to pass the time with friends as the wind and rain batter the windows? Our residents decided to get the cards out and enjoy a few games. They had such a giggle playing snap!
