Activities at Overslade House Care Home
Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.
At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.
We definitely have something for everyone!
Julie Bateman
Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.
I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.
I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!
Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Life at Overslade House Care Home
National Gilbert and Sullivan Day
Today at Overslade House we celebrated 'National Gilbert and Sullivan Day'. Our ladies on Memory Lane really enjoyed a showing of The Pirates of Penzance; humming and dancing to the songs throughout.
Storytime with Anne
Back to school for our resident ambassador; Anne as she returned to delivering her weekly 'Storytime' with Miss Stock's Y2 class at Paddox Primary School. This intergenerational reading session is such a magical moment, Anne reads to the children over zoom, as Fiona turns the pages and the children watch and listen from their classroom.
Our residents love seeing the children and their proud faces as, after each reading the children get to showcase all the work they have been doing, from mathematical calculations to creative writing and artworks. They're such a talented group. We're always looking to connect with the community of all ages, if you have any ideas on how we can link, please email the team; Overslade.Activities@barchester.com
Interactive Table Magic
All our residents can benefit from the interactive games available to play on the portable Magic Table 360. Today several of our ladies had fun sorting items and colours by sweeping and manoeuvring the images.
Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
Tenpin Bowling Fun
Our residents love a competition, and Tenpin bowling always hits a 'strike'! Taking advantage of a clear corridor, they definitely enjoyed the game.
Virtual Tour - Five Sisters Zoo
On large screen, and lounge based screens, our residents thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the animals. They had the opportunity to explore and learn more about animal life at the Five Sisters Zoo, and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.
Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.
One of the zoo’s many important initiatives is to provide permanent homes for rescued bears, lions and animals that have been part of travelling circuses or other establishments.
Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager for Barchester Healthcare, commented: “Our varied life enrichment programme keeps the residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to the residents’ interests and abilities.”
Our residents absolutely loved the lions!
Traditional Jam Tarts
As part of our 'Daily Living' activities schedule, our Memory Lane residents enjoyed following the recipe and making traditional jam tarts earlier today. Working together to make and bake these wonderful tarts gave them such a sense of achievement and a delicious snack to have with their afternoon tea.
