Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Mothers Day Card Making

This morning we got creative making hand crafted cards for Mother’s Day. We used a variety of different papers, pens and pencils and ended up with some beautiful cards. Our residents really enjoyed the craft and loved socialising with each other. We are sending love to all the Mother’s around the home and everywhere.

During yesterday's cooking club we got busy making Easter themed brownies on the Web Ellis Suite. Our residents loved mixing, stirring and pouring to produce some delicious brownies.

World Wildlife Day

For World Wildlife Day this year we took inspiration from the National Trust website and made these beautiful bird feeders.

Our residents loved making them and thought it was very clever to use household objects! After they made them we went out into the garden to hang them up, we then sat quietly by the window and within 5 minutes a blue-tit appeared! This was such an easy yet effective projects that we will be doing with the other suites as the weather gets nicer.

Happy St David’s Day - Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus

We have been busy celebrating our Welsh neighbours today with a number of different activities. Our residents on the Webb Ellis Suite made beautiful Welsh Cakes which they enjoyed with butter. They followed a recipe that the The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) shared on their Facebook page, including using a heart shaped cutter. Thank you to the WI for sharing the idea.

Our Rupert Brooke Suite residents got creative and made handprint daffodils and we shared leaflets around the home explaining St David’s Day (Thank you for sharing). All of this was of course done whilst being surrounded by daffodils (Wales’ national flower).

Essay Writing Compeition Winner

Last week we spent time with our residents judging the essay competition. We all took turns reading the essays out loud and then discussing them after. The topic was “Positives that have come from 2020.” After reading the essays we all felt so positive and uplifted.

The residents want to personally thank all who entered and asked me to let you know how hard the decision was. The winner is Nicola Riley from Ashlawn School. You can read the full story on our Facebook page /BarchesterOversladeHouse
