Activities at Overslade House Care Home

Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.

At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.

We definitely have something for everyone!

Julie Bateman

Activities Lead

Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.

I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.

I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!

Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

Intergenerational Zoom - Paddox School

Our reading project with a Year 2 class at Paddox Primary School is a highlight of our week. Our staff and residents simply love joining with the children. Our residents read to them and then they show us the artwork, sums and stories they have been working on. It is such a beautiful intergenerational activity that really brightens up our day!

Chinese Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year celebrations mark the start of spring on the lunisolar calendar each January or February. Chinese New Year is about symbolically doing away with the old of the previous year and beginning anew to usher in health, prosperity, and good fortune in the new lunar year. The Lunar New Year runs for 15 consecutive days and is celebrated not just in Asia but throughout the world! The holiday actually creates the largest human migration on the planet each year.

This year to celebrate the lunar New Year we had a few different events and activities held around the home. One of our amazing carers, Yan, who is from China originally, hosted a cooking club where some of our residents learnt the art of Chinese cooking. She also taught them how to use chopsticks! We also played “transfer the marshmallow” on Memory lane, teaching them how to use chopsticks! Our memory lane residents really enjoyed getting creative this morning and painting traditional Chinese dragon faces! Lots of fun was had by all!

Here at Overslade House we really enjoy celebrating and educating ourselves and our residents on different cultures and relish the opportunity to get involved in various traditions and events such as Lunar New Year!

Magic Table Joy

We are so lucky to have received a “Magic Table 360.” This table will be able to travel to all suites and will be used with people of all abilities. From colouring to football matches to feeling like you’re having a relaxing day at the beach, “Magic Table 360” does it all!

We are so excited to get familiar with this new piece of equipment and feel the uplifting benefits that it will have on our residents!

National Pizza Day

Who’s ordering pizza tonight? Our residents built their own pizzas today, choosing from an array of toppings and then our chef, Dario, cooked them in the kitchen for us. The pizzas turned out awesome and will be enjoyed this evening at the home!

Springtime Garden Walks

Yesterday we got all wrapped up and ventured out into the garden. We had a wonderful time taking in the fresh air, looking at all the trees and flowers and dreaming about summer.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful garden and we can’t wait for the sun to start shining to get out there and get busy.

Flower Arranging - Thanks ASDA Rugby

A wonderful day full of flowers. We want to say a HUGE thank you to Asda Rugby for donating all these beautiful flowers! We spent the morning with the residents on the Webb Ellis Suite and the afternoon on Memory Lane.

Our residents had a great time and whilst they were busy arranging we were remembering Buddy Holly by listening to his music and sharing facts about him. #Asda #AsdaRugby
