Activities at Overslade House Care Home
Our activities team is dedicated to organising a variety of events and activities and adapting them to suit the capabilities of those we support. Our goal is to improve quality of life by providing activities that are tailored to residents' own interests.
At Overslade House, we encourage local people and businesses to participate, as well as our staff and relatives, in order to keep them involved as part of a wider community. We strive to enhance the quality of both mental and physical stimulation through weekly minibus excursions, PAT dogs, quizzes, Zumba classes, arm chair line dancing, musical entertainers, pamper sessions and much more.
We definitely have something for everyone!
Julie Bateman
Hi, my name is Julie, and I'm the lead Activities Lead here at Overslade House. I've been an entertainer for over 25 years which has given me a great foundation for meeting people from various backgrounds, and has also helped nurture my social skills.
I love animals, and have two Dachshunds of my own who, like me, love meeting new people. I'm looking forward to bringing them in to meeting all our lovely residents here at Overslade.
I'm a bit of a social butterfly and enjoy visiting National Trust locations, attending the Theatre, singing and dining out. Over the years I've even been an 'extra' on TV!
Living life to the full is my motto, and I wish to instil this in all our residents, whatever your ability there is something new to learn or try. Life is for enriching and enjoyment. I look forward to getting to know you and your loved ones. We are always open to new ideas, if you'd like to contact me please call the home on 01788 522577 or email me direct on overslade.activities@barchester.com - New entertainers always welcome.

World Book Day Virtual Schools Link
Today we celebrated World Book Day by zooming our friends at The Paddox School. Anne, our resident ambassador, read them “The Paper Bag Princess.” We set up the projector and cinema screen and invited other residents to come and see the children.
The children showed us each of their favourite books and asked us questions! Two of our Activity Coordinators dressed up as characters from books to celebrate and visited all of our residents and read them stories and poems!
Spring Basket Flower Arranging
Spring has certainly started raising its head at Overslade House. We were busy this morning arranging spring baskets and have placed them around the home to display. Our Memory Lane residents took great care with their baskets and really loved looking at the variety of flowers. We can’t wait to get out into our beautiful gardens with them! Brighter days are coming. Big thank you Asda Rugby for donating these beautiful blooms.
Bread Tasting
Our staff and residents alike enjoyed our “bread trolley” yesterday. We bought a selection of bread (olive, tomato, rosemary, cherry, multigrain and sourdough). We created a bread menu so that our residents could easily choose which pieces they wanted to try.
National Real Bread Week
To celebrate 'National Real Bread week' we got super creative on the Rupert Brooke Suite. We decided to decorate flat breads, we got all the ingredients ready and let them get to work. We gave them some inspiration but they each came up with their own designs and the end products were amazing (and delicious).
Movie Morning on Memory Lane
We set up a “cinema experience” on the Rupert Brooke Suite for our residents to enjoy! We gave them a choice of a variety of movies from which they decided “The King and I.” It was a rainy, grey day in Rugby so we got all cosy and had popcorn and soft drinks available.
Magic Football & Ice hockey tournaments
This morning we took the magic table on Memory Lane and the Webb Ellis Suit. Our residents absolutely loved the sensory activities! We tried a variety of different games and activities to help our residents get used to it and they seemed to have a great time.
We are planning to use the Magic Table to host football or ice hockey tournaments when they really get into the hang of it.
