Activities at Oxford Beaumont Care Community

Our Activities Coordinators are committed to organising a mix of activities and events that cater to all tastes, which includes minibus outings to nearby places of interest and visits from animal trusts, local school choirs, musicians and entertainers. We also undertake one-to-one activities for residents who are unable to participate in group sessions, and encourage loved ones to join in whenever they can.

Life at Oxford Beaumont Care Community

Virtual Entertainment

Residents at Oxford Beaumont used to love having entertainers visit us, but in the current situation, we have had to change the way we do things.

We were really lucky have had Tristan Pate do a live session for us via Zoom. We had one tablet in the lounge so residents there could interact with him and hear him sing their favourite songs, and we took the other tablet around to residents in our Memory Lane communities, and in their rooms.

There were lots of smiles, remembering old favourite songs, humming along, and pleas to have him here in person. As soon as we are safely able to do so, he will be the first on our list!

Thank you, Tristan!

Gingerbread House Day

Residents here at Oxford Beaumont had great fun celebrating Gingerbread House Day on 12th December. They really loved the smell of the gingerbread and said it made them think of Christmas.

Graham was really proud of the finished creation, despite the frustration of early collapses! Everyone thought the cottage looked beautiful and they couldn’t wait to see if it tasted as good as it looks.

There are a number of festive food and drink events planned throughout December, including making mince pies, eating mince pies, a cheese tasting event, as well as the usual Christmas meals.

Let There be Lights!

We were really pleased to be joined via Zoom by family, friends, and our local MP, Layla Moran, for our celebration of Christmas lights.

Layla said a few words, thanking the staff at Oxford Beaumont and all care homes and key workers, as well as families for making sacrifices to help keep their loved ones safe this Christmas, before doing the countdown to the lights switching on.

We followed this with Christmas drinks and music, with staff dancing and residents dancing in their chairs. We showed the event on phones and tablets around the home for those who couldn’t be in reception; and the lights on the trees in the two Memory Lane communities were also switched on at the same time.

Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Lest We Forget

Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day are key events in the calendar here at Oxford Beaumont. This year, in addition to making sure remembrance services were available for residents to watch on TV, we also made our very own display.

We included names of family members who had served in the services, and Janet asked if she could include a poem that her mother had written. It was very moving talking about memories but everyone who was involved said they were really pleased we had done it.

Bonfire Night

The maintenance team here at Oxford Beaumont organised a wonderful display of fireworks which residents were able to watch through the windows from the comfort and warmth of reception. Just in case looking outside made anyone feel cold, we made sure there was hot chocolate and mulled wine available to warm us all up.

Halloween Fun

Staff and residents enjoyed dressing up and playing a few tricks on each other for Halloween this year. One resident particularly enjoyed putting plastic spiders on the receptionist’s chair! We also had tasty treats, including some wonderful sugar pumpkins made by our kitchen team.
