Activities at Scarborough Hall Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Pizza Day

Residents at Scarborough Hall enjoyed celebrating National Pizza Day! We put our creative skills to good use by making homemade pizzas, which we treated ourselves to in the afternoon. There were so many combinations of toppings, everyone made exactly what they liked, and they all looked and smelled delicious!

National Cheese lovers day

What a wonderful afternoon we had here at Scarborough Hall as we celebrated National Cheese Lovers Day. Our Cheese Lovers Cheese and Wine party was a great success! Ray said he really enjoyed trying all of the different cheeses on offer. He also had a great time singing along with everyone after.

Home remembers legendary Bob Marley

Scarborough Hall care home in Scarborough was transformed into a little corner of the Caribbean to celebrate what would have been Bob Marley’s 78th birthday on 6th February.  Born in Nine Mile, Jamaica, Robert Nesta Marley, or Bob Marley as he was better known, died of a rare type of skin cancer in 1981, aged just 36.  He was considered one of the pioneers of reggae and was known for his distinctive, soulful vocal and song writing style.  He is hailed as a cultural icon who increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide, despite his relatively short career.  His album Legend is the best-selling reggae album of all time.  Rolling Stone ranked him 11th on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Scarborough Hall Care Home in Scarborough welcomed in the Year of the Rabbit. During our celebrations, we listened to some music from Greater China, viewed last year's celebrations and discussed the animals associated with the Chinese zodiac, enjoyed fan dancing as well as learning how to use chopsticks and learned how to write our names in Chinese. As part of our Chinese themed dining experience, our residents had the opportunity to try some traditional Chinese cuisine and fortune cookies.

Starlings virtual talk

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.
