Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinator is constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. We have regular outings in the mini bus to nearby places of interest including local garden centres and parks as well as musicians and entertainers. We also hold bingo evenings which are helped out by our residents families. We also have a local pub nearby which the residents enjoy visiting from time to time for a spot of lunch or sitting in the gardens in the summer time. We try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests as best is possible. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Sherwood Lodge Care Home
We Are Fulwood
A local facebook group called 'We Are Fulwood' placed an ad for the general public to make some scarecrows for the people of Fulwood to enjoy on their daily walks in the area.
Our residents loved making these and there was lots of fun and laughter and discussion around how to make them and what outfit to put on them. We have seen a number of children and parents stood afar admiring them.
Sherwood's Mascot
We have been given are very own mascot as a thank you for all our hard work and dedication to the job. We are yet to name him but he has his very own name badge and he will soon be put to work cheering everyone up!
In the Shade of the Parasols
It would be rude not to take advantage of this record breaking weather, so Sherwood Lodge residents took the opportunity with both hands. In the shade of the parasols, they were served refreshing shandies and fruit juices, which led to songs and reminiscences of balmy summers and sun down tipples. A lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all and we are looking forward to the next one!
Baking Lesson
Julia was a Home Economics teacher at a local school in Preston and expressed a wish to work alongside our Head Chef, Jo, in teaching fellow residents some cordon bleu baking.
Julia didn't need to issue detentions or demerits, even when the dough and flower started to fly. The rock buns were delicious and were served up to fellow residents at tea time.
Sharing Memories on VE Day
As part of our celebrations, residents have been coming together to share some lovely and amusing memories of their experiences of VE day. Brenda, aged 97, remembered waiting for her husband, who served in the British Army, to return safely from overseas. Brenda recalled that their VE Day celebrations went on for days, and that their young relationship started afresh after a four year gap.
Tony Fraser was only ten in 1945; he recalled his father returning from serving Holland. Rhe family laughed when Dad turned his nose up at tomatoes, saying that’s what he lived on in Holland, and he never wanted to see another one again!
Our residents gathered in the dining room and lounge for fish and chips, followed by cakes specially decorated by Martin, our chef. Vera Lynn’s iconic music played, as the residents sang and waved their Union Jack flags. It was a moving sight!

Our local youth impact centre sent our residents a lovely card and biscuits to enjoy!
