Activities at South Grange Care Home

Activity coordinator Gill was glad to be able to celebrate this day with the housekeeping team as she was once part of that team. Throughout the day some off the staff talked about all the different things relating to their role.

Gill and Christine, Head Housekeeper had lots of thing to reminisce about as they have worked for the company numerous years with 53-years between them.  The residents gave a lot of praise to the housekeeping team for all the hard work they do in keeping their home clean and tidy.

The Housekeeping team were over the moon to be praised for what they do. They were presented with flowers, chocolates and lovely cakes to have with their morning coffee.  

South Grange celebrated International Dog Day with a day of dog-themed activities from quizzes, word searches and dog breeds.

Residents were introduced to Marvin’s adventures, a lovely dachshund who has been introduced to the home through the community and hopefully will become a future therapy pet.

The staff shared photos of their dogs and some residents were happy to bring along photos of their own dogs to create a display for all to see.   Afternoon dog bingo was thoroughly enjoyed by the residents before everyone sat back to enjoy afternoon tea served with mouth-watering Scottie shortbread biscuits as they discussed the various breeds of dogs.

The activities team at South Grange kicked of the themed day by becoming land girls, their outfits were very becoming and the room was decorated with bunting and union jacks.

The morning was filled with quizzes, various documentaries and the Residents favourite activity was the sampling the old confectionary.

They also enjoyed the afternoon entertainment by watching the Land Girls Movie followed by a lovely afternoon tea with traditional Victoria sponge, as the day drew to a close Residents were deep in conversation about the events of WW2.

A Senior Care Assistant and Maintenance Assistant at South Grange in Monifieth has received their prestigious Service Awards in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years and 20 years.

Lisa Jamieson, Senior care assistant started at Barchester in August 2005 and Ernest McIntosh, Maintenance Assistant started at Barchester in August 2000 and have worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Resident, Patricia celebrated her birthday in style surrounded by staff and friends in the home who presented her with her a delicious home-made birthday cake.  The celebrations also included a virtual performance by popular vocalists, Kirsten and John which led Residents to dance and sing-a-long too.

Gill Conway, activities coordinator said: “It was a lovely afternoon which was enjoyed by everyone and it was nice that Patricia could share her day with all the other residents and the staff made sure her birthday celebrations were spectacular!”

The ‘Jolly Sweets Trolley’ goes around weekly, giving South Grange residents the opportunity to enjoy some of their favourite sweet treats. Residents are given a choice of old fashioned sweets, sugar-free sweets, chocolates and crisps.

The residents love seeing it get rolled out with some of their choice treats, and sometimes they will request for it to go around the home more than once a week. While going around the home with the trolley, activities catch up to ensure that everyone’s firm favourites are available, and also what kind of different activities they would like to see, as well as to let them know what has been planned for the week ahead.

The mobile trolley is very popular at South Grange and it's lovely to see the residents smiles as they see it rolling along.
