Activities at Springvale Court Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Jess Swinburne
Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.
I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Celebrations fit for a Queen
We marked the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with fantastic activities and royal parties.
In recognition of the special occasion, we decorated our home with bunting, beautiful flower displays and themed royal items, including flags and printed photos of the Queen through the years and iconic royal landmarks, like Windsor Castle.
During the Jubilee weekend, our residents enjoyed a variety of sensory sessions and fun-filled activities made their own crowns; watched the national celebrations on the TV; enjoyed refreshing royal drinks with strawberries.
To make things even more interesting, we’ve hosted our very own Big Jubilee Lunch. Everyone enjoyed delicious sweet and savoury treats, prepared by our talented chef and his team, along with tasty cocktails and mocktails. The event was a big success.
A simple wish!
A simple wish comes true! Residents, John and Ethel both have Scottish roots and were delighted when peri-chef, Steve visited and whipped up a treat of haggis, tattie and turnips to serve them!
When Ethel asked if there was anymore, staff were only too happy to oblige with another serving, she said “it was delicious and a good reminder of her younger years in Scotland”. As part of our homes life enrichment programme we are always looking at new ways to keep our residents socially stimulated and active
Crystal Palace Chronicles
We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.
Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.
Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.
Exercising the mind and body
Keeping active, having social interactions and being mentally stimulated is very important to Residents at Springvale Court. Today we enjoyed a fun interactive session with ‘Smile through sport’ before an afternoon session with Oomph live. There was a lot of laughter to be heard!
As part of the homes life enrichment programme, we include firm favourites in the homes calendar with fun-filled adapted games that they played over the years in a safe environment!

A walk on the wild side!
Residents at Springvale Court celebrated World Turtle Day with a twist as they took a walk on the wild side with a Zoo visit!
It’s not quite a turtle but, for World Turtle day residents got up close with a tortoise, an iguana, a giant millipede, a snake and a Guinea pig.
Everyone each held their unusual visitors whilst discussing the creatures at length and were amazed at the fact that a tortoise can live 50-100 years!! Guinea pigs are not related to pigs. And, the real name for the Giant African Millipede is Shongololo. It was a fun fact-filling day for all!
International Nurses Day
Today we celebrated the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, also known as International Nurses Day, by acknowledging our dedicated and hard-working nurses.
To mark the occasion and to say thank you, we recognised our amazing team of district nurses who visit us here at Springvale. We treated them to a bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate for them to enjoy while off duty, they deserve it!
Every staff member at our home whatever their role is, are going above and beyond. A big thank you to all.
