Activities at Springvale Court Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.
Jess Swinburne
Hi, My name is Jess and I am Activities Coordinator here at Springvale Court. I am delighted to join the team, joining in December 2023 but I have found my feet with ease. I spend time getting to know all of our residents and this helps me to arrange meaningful activities based on individual likes and interests. I love spending time with our residents, be it chatting one to one, small reminiscing groups or large group activities.
I am looking forward to learning and growing with Barchester and I am always open to any ideas for new and different activities so please stop and chat with me.

Life at Springvale Court Care Home
Memory Walk
On Saturday 8th, the staff and residents completed the Alzheimer's Memory Walk. We travelled down to South Shields which the residents particularly enjoyed as they told us that they love the coast and the fresh sea air.
The staff and residents completed a 1.5k walk around the seafront and back to bents park to receive our Memory Walk medal. After all of the walking, we had worked up an appetite so we stopped of for some chips and a cuppa to end a lovely morning down the coast.
Once all donations are in we will share how much we have raised as a team for the Alzheimer's society
History of Botanical garden
Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.
The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.
Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions. The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.
Beautiful bouquets
Our homes had a fantastic time joining members of the Wallace Collection for an amazing sensory session.
During the live virtual experience, our residents explored one of the museum’s most beautiful Dutch flower paintings and learnt new drawing techniques.
We cannot wait to put our creative skills to a test and produce beautiful paintings of our own.
Everyone enjoyed the lovely talk, we all had lots of fun and it’s given us plenty of ideas.
Summer Fair
We held our annual summer fair here at Springvale Court. We were joined by friends, family and the local community.
We had a live performance from Musical Memories, everyone had big smiles on their faces whilst listening to the songs and having a bit of a sing along. The children particularly liked the face painting and the chocolate fountain, where you could fill your stick full of yummy marshmallows and strawberries.
Our tombola went down a treat with lots of prizes won. And the tasty, freshly baked scones and cakes were a big hit with everyone. A great day has been had by all...
A stroll in the sunshine
The residents have been taking advantage of the lovely weather we have had and took a stroll down to Wrekenton. We sat and watched as people went by and began to reminisce about the changes to the area. After all of that, we ended our trip out with a LARGE cup of tea at Greggs, the residents were delighted when they saw the size of their cup.
Afternoon tea
We have had a great morning sharing stories over some cake and biscuits and a cup of tea. We have talked about all sorts of things but mainly about our love for scones and jam! Our residents have had beaming smiles whilst surrounded by fellow residents… and cake.
