Activities at St Thomas Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities coordinator is dedicated to organising meaningful activities on an individual and group basis to fulfill the daily needs of our residents, as we understand how important mental and physical stimulation is for their wellbeing. Our activities are available to everyone who wants to take part and there is something different going on everyday. We often go out on day trips including visiting shopping centres, garden centres, evening meals at the local pubs, visits to local schools and also coffee mornings with other care homes. We have a wide range of entertainers that visit us at our home including musical therapists, Millers Ark Farm, pantomimes as well as our local salvation army and lots more. We encourage families to join us on trips out and also in home activities such as baking, arts and crafts, dancing and singing, we believe this is a great way for our residents to live an active and fun life here with us at St Thomas.

Life at St Thomas Care Home

First time winner!

Joan played her first game of bingo today. Joan is a lovely lady she is kind and polite. Joan has found it very hard to join in with activities due to being blind and deaf, and would always decline joining in with activities with the rest of the home. One day Joan had come down to join us for lunch we got talking to her about joining us for bingo. Joan agreed to join us. A member of the team sat with jean and helped her play the game explaining to her what was going on and what number had been called and if she was close to winning a line or full house.

Joan won the first line of the game she was really happy with that. Then as the game carried on Joan won the full house. Joan was very happy that she had won the full house also. We told Joan what prizes there were and she picked two as she had won both games.

Joan said that she has really enjoyed herself and that she would like to play bingo when we play next time. True to her word Joan has joined us in more games of bingo and also other activities. Joan said she is very grateful that we encouraged her to come and join in with activities as she has made new friends and she is no longer sat in her room all alone.

Beauty Therapy to make you feel Amazing!

This photo melts your heart. Pam joined in with the beauty therapy afternoon that we had in the home. Pam was not sure at first if she wanted to have her make up done as she had not worn make up in a long time. Once she had seen some of the other ladies have their makeup done she changed her mind. Pam was patient while she had her makeup and hair done. Once it was finished we gave pam a mirror and her response melted our hearts. Pam said she can't believe how beautiful she has been made and how the makeup has made her look younger. Pam couldn’t stop looking at herself In the mirror, smiling and saying thank you so much for making her look young.

An Amazing Mother

Jennifer is an amazing mother. Jennifer has a good family and they look after her well and come and see her quite a lot. Jennifer has an amazing personality se has always got a smile on her face that can light up a whole room. On Mother’s day Jennifer was given a gift from the staff at St Thomas for mother’s day. Jennifer was very grateful to be given a gift she thanked everyone for the present. In the photo you can see how Jennifer is happy and smiling when you see her smile you have to smile with her.
