Activities at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

The activity team within our home spend a lot of time committing themselves to organising a range of activities for residents. This includes, pet therapy, trips out to local places of interest, visits from entertainers and musicians, bingo, one to one pamper time, weekly quizzes, coffee mornings, arts and crafts and baking. Activities are considered to be a crucial aspect of our home as residents look forward to upcoming events. As a result, it is essential that our team work together with dedication, to ensure residents are entertained and involved in as many activities as possible.

Michael Lythgoe

Activities Lead

I have worked in the care sector for 36 years, initially working for the NHS at Brandesburton Hospital as a care assistant. When the hospital closed I transferred to Townend Court and continued as a care assistant on the forensic ward for people with a learning disability. It was whilst working with the Occupational therapists at Townend that I discovered my passion for engaging the patients in activities of their choosing, I’m quite artistic and creative so it was an easy transition

I have many years’ experience working with the older generation and those who live with dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other diagnosis’.

I am really looking forward to bring both my experience and passion to my new role and to see the positive impact on our resident population.

National Pie Week

This week is ‘National Pie Week’ and to celebrate, everyone a delicious pie of their choice. We had a selection of savoury pies, sweet pies and sausage rolls to be enjoyed with a glass of lemonade with fresh lemon. They were thoroughly enjoyed by everybody and we had some lovely comments;

“I especially enjoyed the apple pie, it brought back lots of lovely memories from when I used to bake”

“Meat pies were always a family favourite in our home”

Thank you to our local bakery The Square Bakehouse for supplying the pies for us. We had many compliments and we are very lucky to live in a community with such helpful, supportive businesses to help us give our residents a fulfilled and enriched life here.

The Wallace Collection Virtual Talk

We had a lovely time joining Holly and Roxanne from the Wallace Collection for a virtual sensory talk in recognition of International Women’s Day.

The Wallace Collection a national museum in a historic London town house.

During the session, our residents had the opportunity to explore together two different, yet inspiring, women from the Collection, with music and discussion.

We all had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the immersive experience.

Weekly Church Service

This week residents from around the home gathered for our weekly church service, hosted by Reverend Simon Pritchard, from St. John the Baptist Church. Everyone enjoyed communion and singing an array of hymns and saying prayers.

Part of the service was also hosted by our resident Brian Lawson, who is a retired Anglican lay reader. This was a lovely addition to our church service this morning and we are very grateful to Brian for always going out of his way to help others.

Singing For Fun

We had a wonderful time at Pocklingon Arts Centre this morning, at their weekly Singing For Fun - Dementia Friendly session. We sang some of our favourite songs, reminisced about memories the songs brought back to us, while enjoying refreshments and socialising with a lovely group of people.

Listening to, and enjoying music is a great way to come together and socialise. Aswell as being a great way of entertaining, music stimulates memories and enhances emotional and social wellbeing.

We are very passionate about the art of music here at Stamford Bridge Beaumont and it is always a great experience having the opportunity to go out into the local community to enjoy this with others.

Ladies Afternoon Tea

We had a wonderful time enjoying our ladies afternoon tea with some delicious scones, cakes and biscuits.

The afternoon tea was filled with lots of laughter, chatting and reminiscence and it’s safe to say there wasn’t many treats left at the end!

A great afternoon enjoyed by all.

Random Acts of Kindness Day

To mark the occasion we we went into the local village and gave out gifts to our local businesses, not only as a random act of kindness but to show appreciation to all the staff.

Kindness is one of the most important qualities that people can possess. Not only does it make the world a better place, but it can also have a positive impact on people’s mental and physical health.

Research has shown that acts of kindness produce Endorphins, which are hormones that have a natural pain-relieving effect. In addition, kindness can help to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.
