Activities at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

The activity team within our home spend a lot of time committing themselves to organising a range of activities for residents. This includes, pet therapy, trips out to local places of interest, visits from entertainers and musicians, bingo, one to one pamper time, weekly quizzes, coffee mornings, arts and crafts and baking. Activities are considered to be a crucial aspect of our home as residents look forward to upcoming events. As a result, it is essential that our team work together with dedication, to ensure residents are entertained and involved in as many activities as possible.

Michael Lythgoe

Activities Lead

I have worked in the care sector for 36 years, initially working for the NHS at Brandesburton Hospital as a care assistant. When the hospital closed I transferred to Townend Court and continued as a care assistant on the forensic ward for people with a learning disability. It was whilst working with the Occupational therapists at Townend that I discovered my passion for engaging the patients in activities of their choosing, I’m quite artistic and creative so it was an easy transition

I have many years’ experience working with the older generation and those who live with dementia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and other diagnosis’.

I am really looking forward to bring both my experience and passion to my new role and to see the positive impact on our resident population.

Life at Stamford Bridge Beaumont Care Home

Arts and crafts

Arts and crafts is a popular activity for our residents as they like to show their creative sides. Residents have been busy finishing their personalised calendars to display in their own rooms so they can keep a note of when their favourite activities are scheduled.  They are looking forward to being able to get back out in the homes mini-bus for trips out once the pandemic is over.

Letters and cards bring joy

Throughout the pandemic our Residents have been delighted to receive cards, letters and pictures from their friends from the local community and thoroughly enjoy reading them all.  Margaret, a resident within the home was ‘over the moon’ today to receive a reply from one of the students who she had personally responded too, the letter also included a crossword for Margaret to do as she had expressed an interest in them and had mentioned it was something she enjoyed doing.  Thank you to everyone who has written and continues to do so, you brighten our days!

Magic table fun

Residents of Stamford Bridge Beaumont have been busy making the most of the homes interactive magic table which allows residents to complete puzzles, create pictures using touch.  The magic table is a great asset to the home and for those residents living with dementia.

Pet therapy with robotic pet

Prior to the pandemic our residents would enjoy visits from Martha the Labrador as part of the Pet-Therapy scheme, as this, like many other things have ceased for now, we purchased one of the robotic cats for residents to enjoy,  they look, sound and feel like a real cat, they have brought so much comfort and joy to our residents, so much so that we have bought a second!

Vaccine brings joy to residents and staff

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Stamford Bridge Beaumont care home, in Stamford Bridge were delighted to be invited to have the vaccination at the home, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Lindsey Leatham said: “Last year was a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”
