Activities at Station Court Care Home

Activities make up the most important part of all our days, and at Station Court we ensure there are a variety of social events that reflect the individual interests and capabilities of people we support. All group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self worth. All of our team are committed to supporting a full activities programme within the home.

Carly Chesney

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Carly and I am the homes Activities Coordinator.  I joined the home in 2011.  I am passionate about our enhancing our residents daily life and delivering a person centred life enrichment activity programme is very important to me to ensure that our residents continue to lead fulfilling lives doing things that they want to and enjoy. Our programme is varied from excursions out on the mini bus ensuring our residents are connected to their local community, hosting events here in the home, virtual events and themed days – no day is the same!

Life at Station Court Care Home

An afternoon at the Opera

Our homes had a fabulous time with the talented soprano Astrid Joos from Street Theatre.  Astrid spoke about a selection of famous operas and our residents were treated to performances of wonderful arias from operas well-known to all, such as ‘Giuditta’, ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’.

It was a lovely experience, truly enjoyed by all.

Bastille Day

Station Court in Ashington donned their home in French flags and celebrated Bastille Day.  Residents, their relatives and staff learned the history behind Bastille Day, watched parades and firework shows taking place in France, they took part in a tasting session with themed foods of delicious croissants, pain au chocolat’s, crepes, cinnamon swirls and cheese baguettes with glasses of red wine whilst listening to L’amour music and taking part in a quiz.

Carly, activities coordinator at Station Court care home, said: “This has been a huge amount of fun and sparked a lot of memories for residents to talk about their holidays to France’’

Party at Plessey Wood

We had a fantastic day joining the Mind Active team and members of the community for a party at Plessey Woods Country Park.  We danced and sang along at live entertainment from the fabulous Jessica Irving. Enjoying a picnic whilst taking in the beautiful scenery and laughing with friends, making the most of the glorious sunshine!

,

An afternoon by the sea!

We had a wonderful day visiting the Maritime centre this month, the gateway to Northumberland’s coastline.

Residents devoured a delicious afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones and miniature cream cakes whilst looking out on to the sea before we visited the exhibition of by gone days and the Mary Joicey. We took advantage of the glorious weather having a stroll along the promenade at Newbiggin By-The-Sea taking in the views, sounds and sea air with ice creams of course!

Sunny Days

We have been making the most of the glorious weather this month out in our sensory garden being sure to get our daily dose of Vitamin D. From having fun playing active games with music to relaxing listening to the sounds of the birds with ice-creams.  Our gentlemen have been doing a wonderful job maintain our flower beds and planters for us all to enjoy!

Book Club with Dr Tim Howard

Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.

The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.
