Activities at Strachan House Care Home

The residents at Strachan House in Edinburgh enjoyed a celebration of Scottish culture and fare to mark St Andrew’s Day on Wednesday 30th November.  In honour of Jesus’ first disciple who promoted kindness and is laid to rest in Edinburgh, head chef Paul Dow baked traditional Scottish traditional shortbread accompanied by a wee dram for everyone to enjoy.  

In the afternoon some of the residents took part in an ‘Ultimate Scottish Quiz’ where things got very competitive. And in the early evening they enjoyed some live Scottish entertainment.

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Strachan House care home, in Edinburgh have been decking the halls, getting out the tinsel and unravelling the fairy lights, ready for a whole host of Christmas celebrations.  

Strachan House residents and staff have been busy creating a themed Santa’s workshop as part of their festive decorating for Christmas. The residents have also been crafting home-made decorations to ensure their home will be definitely make everyone smile that comes through their doors.

General Manager, Gordon Philp said: “Christmas is such a magical time and our residents love nothing better than to spend time creating decorations for the home and then we all help to put them up together.  It is so special to be able to share these rituals and we all love to see the home decorated and filled with twinkly lights.”

Strachan House care home, in Edinburgh hosts a regular intergenerational playgroup for residents. The home welcomes the local nursery group from Cargifield School to enjoy music, games and activities with residents at the home.

The group of pre- schoolers enjoy a range of activities and fun with the residents and yesterday was no exception. Strachan House resident got a few little helping hands to start the baking of their annual Christmas cake.

General Manager, Lara Masucci of Strachan House said: “We invited the group to the home as a way to support our local community and invite others who visit our home who have young children, and the residents at our home had a lot of fun on the day, and love our young visitors. If anyone ever wants to stop in for a lovely afternoon with your young ones, or just for a cuppa and a break, we’d love to have you join us.”

The Residents were so excited to join in a new tradition of gender reveal party with our very own Ruffa and Paolo, all of their family, #teamstrachan and good friends.

Celebrating these special moments with the people nearest and dearest is what life is about and we would like to thank all of the Staff team, Residents and Families that made this day so very special!

Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

At Strachan House we spent time together showing our respect while watching remembrance live on TV and then having a peaceful afternoon tea remembering all of those we loved and lost.

We welcomed back Cargilfield School nursery for a intergenerational play group afternoon. Our residents always look forward to our younger friends visiting and today was no exception. With plenty of fun on offer including colouring our favourite animals and playing eye spy the wildlife in our wonderful garden.

Residents are already arranging their autumn garden strolls for next week.
