The King of Rome

Amidst the ebb and flow of life, pausing to bask in moments of pure relaxation can be both rejuvenating and fulfilling. Embracing relaxation as essential practice  throughout the year, can significantly enhance ones wellbeing. Indulging in activities that kindle joy and purpose aren’t just fleeting, they are pathways to rekindling connections and igniting passions.

This afternoon at Tyspane Care Home residents, friends, families and staff were joined by David and friends who performed and dedicated their afternoon to create soothing and invigorating music for everyone. They played an array of instruments whilst singing a selection of old classics and personal songs/tunes they had written themselves. The soothing sounds of the melodies from the live instruments allowed residents, friends, families and staff to travel back to happier times and acting as a mood booster.

David (Resident Ambassador) cried tears of happiness as he felt deeply connected to some of the songs, despite showing a deep sense of emotional vulnerability it was also a sign of great strength and resilience.

Mary (Resident) thanked David for reciting the story/song about “The King of Rome” who was a successful racing pigeon owned by Charlie Hudson of Derby.

Thank you David, friends and Christine for a wonderful afternoon, it was special and surpassed all our expectations.

"Jacqui, Jaye, and Julie" sounds like it should be the basis for a Rock and Roll girl band 🎶💃🏻🎤. Well, this Rock and Rollin' threesome have an even more important job than that!!! These fab ladies are the 'Activities Team' that makes sure the residents at Barchester Healthcare's Tyspane Care Home have the best time ever... week in and week out 👏👏👏. In fact, the singers have been having so much fun over the last few months that our Directors Emily and Simon decided to take a trip down to sunny North Devon today to check out the fun for themselves. Needless to say, that it turned out to be another great afternoon of music and smiles for all concerned. Keep on Rockin' ladies, you really are the best ❤️

A great photo album isn’t just about the layout, although that’s what we tend to focus on. It’s about so much more; the story, the theme, and the details. Photo albums make beautiful keepsakes, for one’s self or loved ones, they preserve memories easily accessible for future generations. So, imagine Tyspane Care Home Activities Team reaction when Doreen a wonderfully articulate, funny and extremely sociable lady shared her photo album of her earlier years. The photos captured her earlier years with her friends at carnivals, dances, charity events, coach trips, holiday camps and more. The pictures told many stories, conveyed emotions, moods and messages that evoked understanding that words couldn’t. Complex moments and fleeting expressions tell a story of a lady who loved life to the full, and still does. 

To keep this passion burning in Doreen residents, friends, families and staff hosted a party based on the events captured in her photo album, one of family gatherings, laughter, fun and plenty of dressing up!  Emily (Mini Concerts) performed an array of classic Rock and Roll songs for Doreen. Doreen and her daughter sang throughout the performance and new photographs and memories were made.

Doreen stated, “This has been such a wonderful surprise, thank you to everyone who made this happen.”

Patricia, “This reminds me of the old days, my type of entertainment, loved it.”

Michelle, “What a special afternoon.”

So, remember a photograph in an album keeps a moment from running away, it’s the pause button of life.

With a wide variety of tailored activities and events we make sure our residents have the best physical, mental, spiritual and social stimulation, all bespoke to them.

So, this morning the activities team visited St Brannock’s Church in Braunton with Lorna, Martin (Lorna’s son) and Gwen.  For Lorna and Gwen their faith and religion are important aspects of their spirituality allowing them to hold onto real meaning in their life’s, have confidence in their personhood and provide hope for the future.

The morning was made even more special as whilst in St Brannock’s Church we were able to locate the carving of The White Sow and Seven Suckling Piglets in the chapel ceiling. This being important because twelve months earlier Lorna had told residents, families, friends and staff the legend of St Brannock who had searched and found the place where a white pig was suckling seven piglets and built St Brannock’s on the very same spot.

Lorna stated, “Thank you for bringing me to church, it means a lot to me.”

Gwen when asked if she enjoyed the visit especially seeing the beautiful organ stated, “Oh yes.”

Furthermore, as we all know trips are not the same with coffee and cake, thank you SQ Braunton for being so accommodating.

The Paris 2024 Olympics has surely offered ground-breaking celebrations for sport for the entire world. Numerous sites and venues of France and French overseas territories have become places of celebrations this summer. Residents, families, friends and staff have enjoyed watching a plethora of sporting events either in groups or independently and have discussed the new events that have been introduced this year. Breaking, more commonly known as breakdancing, caused a massive discussion in Circle of Friends, who would have thought a dance that originated in the Bronx in 1970's could involve into a competitive sport, complete with international events, a robust judging system and world championships. Luckily for Tyspane Care Home residents "Breaking," does not appear in our sporting clubs, however, the Tyspane Care Home Olympics sweepstake organised by Vernon did!
