Activities at Washington Grange Care Home

Barchester’s Washington Grange was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween party got in to full swing.

Staff and residents got in to the spirit of things with fancy dress, music and games before tucking into some treats especially prepared by the homes hospitality team.  

A General Manager at Washington Grange in Barmston Village has received a prestigious 20Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years.

Paula Joicey, now General Manager, started at Barchester in October 2000 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years. Paula started at Washington Grange as a care assistant, before becoming Senior Care assistant, Deputy Manager and then General Manager at the home.

Residents and colleagues have been overwhelmed with gifts and messages and the home is delighted to welcome a new member to the team—a mascot—as a thank you for all their hard work and dedication to the job.

The team at Washington is yet to name him, but he has his very own name badge and he will soon be put to work cheering everyone up!

A boy from the local community has raised money to help care homes. He knocked at Washington Grange's door and brought us some hand sanitizer and treats. Thank you for this lovely gesture.

Residents of Washington Grange are busy preparing for their virtual VE celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day from the safety of their own home. In line with national government guidance, the homes original plans were cancelled to mark 75 years since the end of World War Two on Friday May 8th. Residents are still being encouraged to celebrate the occasion in their home by displaying posters, bunting and hosting a tea party while continuing to follow social distancing guidelines. In the lead up to the main event, they have been busy making flags—red white and blue—to display around the home to mark the occasion.
 

Although it’s disappointing that we are unable to come together with family, friends and members of the communtiy to pay tribute to the Second World War generation, it’s important for us to stay at home to ensure everyone’s safety. We know residents will still commemorate the occasion from the comfort of their home, and we have lots of resources to help them mark the anniversary.

We encourage everyone to get involved by joining the two minutes silence at 11am and hosting their own virtual tea party in the safety of their own home while displaying bunting and posters.

Resident’s at Washington Grange were delighted to receive a special delivery from local store, Asda, who kindly delivered a chocolate feast for everyone to enjoy. 

Everyone agrees that a piece of chocolate is part of our five a day, so it was fine to indulge this once. Everyone loves chocolate and our residents had a great time sharing them with each other over a cup of coffee, and a massive thank you to Asda for their generosity.
