Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Waterside Court Care Home

Purpose-built gardens

Residents have been making the most of the summer weather by enjoying more strolls in our lovely gardens.

As a new, purpose-built care home, Waterside Court is fully designed to help enable residents on a day-to-day basis and with a variety of skills. Our lovely gardens, for instance, have flat pathways so residents can enjoy leisurely strolls with minimal trip hazards. There are also plenty of seats and benches available in the gardens and along the walkways, which allow residents to take a break should they wish to go for longer walks.

Our raised flower beds and planters are also a wonderful way of enabling our green-fingered residents to continue gardening when they move into the home.

Enjoying Indoor Skittles

Our residents’ competitive natures came out at Waterside Court as they enjoyed a game of indoor skittles in one of our spacious lounges.

Fun games like these are brilliant for helping residents to increase and maintain their motor skills and mobility, all whilst having a fantastic time!

We’ve had a few new residents join us recently as well, so interactive activities like this are a lovely way of making new residents feel more at ease in their first few days.

May Kidner, Activity Coordinator at Waterside Court, said: “I love seeing the competitive side of our residents shine through. They each try to best each other but they always maintain a good sense of humour and sportsmanship. It was lovely to see how relaxed they were whilst enjoying this activity”.

World Beatles Day

It was World Beatles Day and Waterside Court decided to celebrate in true 5 star fashion. Residents enjoyed a gourmet meal that was cooked by very own Head Chef and served in one of our luxury dining areas.

The team at Waterside Court also decided to double up as live entertainers, singing and dancing to Beatles tunes as residents enjoyed their dining experience with lots of laughter!

A relaxing morning

Residents had a laid-back morning at Waterside Court, enjoying a soothing cup of hot chocolate whilst reading the morning paper together. Activities like this are a lovely way of encouraging social engagement and cognitive stimulation.

The morning paper was then followed by some light exercise in one of our lovely gardens. Residents and staff went for a leisurely stroll around the home, enjoying the warm sunshine whilst observing local wildlife.

A Royal Day at Ascot - the Waterside Court way!

Residents and staff had a fabulous time celebrating Ascot. Residents donned glamorous hats and fancy suits and dresses whilst enjoying a tasty selection of home-made treats and Pimm’s. The Activitiy team also put our recently-obtained skills from our flower-arranging masterclass to the test by creatively decorating the home with an array of stunning flower arrangements.

May Kidner, Activity Coordinator at Waterside Court, said: “We had an amazing time and residents loved dressing up for the occasion. We involved family members and asked them to celebrate with us too. Whilst the weather meant we couldn’t hold the event outside, family members booked indoor visits and also donned some formal attire to enjoy the celebrations with their loved ones.”

Family Picnics at Waterside Court

It's been lovely to see residents at Waterside Court enjoy this spectacular weather with their families. Our Head Chef prepared a delicious, home-made Afternoon Tea for one of our residents to enjoy with four of his family members in the garden.

With the latest guidelines now allowing numbers of up to 30 outdoors, we have been able to host a variety of activities and events and have many more planned for the coming weeks, including celebrating World Chocolate Day, the UEFA cup final and we’ll even be holding our own Eisteddfod Festival using our brand new gazebo!
