We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gardening with Pearl
The sun may have been fighting to get through on this cloudy Tuesday, but our lovely Pearl didn't let that stop her from heading outside to get some gardening done!
We have lots of raised flower beds placed around our gorgeous gardens and private path, which enable residents to continue their outdoor hobbies with ease whilst reducing the risk of falls...happy gardening Pearl!
Church Services resume at Waterside Court
We welcomed Reverend Andrew Petit in for a wonderful church service after lunch at Waterside Court. Reverend Petit now comes in on a monthly basis to Waterside Court to hold a service for those wishing to practice their faith.
For a lot of residents, we have been supporting them to practice their faith by watching live services on TV and zooming into local services that are open to the public. With guidelines still in place but easing for care homes, we have been delighted to be able to welcome Reverend Petit back in.
Relaxing with a cuppa whilst flower arranging
Residents enjoyed a nice relaxing morning in the Activity Cafe doing some flower arranging. These kinds of activities are nice ways of flexing residents’ motor skills and “muscle memory”, which then enables them to relax a bit more whilst chatting with new people over a hot cuppa.
Activities such as flower arranging are one of the many activities we offer as part of our Life Enrichments programme at Waterside Court.
May Kidner, Activity Coordinator at Waterside Court, said: “This activity was really nice and relaxed. It was great to do because we have some new residents, so the calmer activities that encourage conversation can be a really nice way to let new residents settle in and get to know everyone.”
World Alzheimer’s Day at Waterside Court
It was World Alzheimer’s Day on 21st September and Waterside Court chose to honour the day by holding our first, in-person Dementia Friends Session with family members.
Dementia Friends is an initiative created by the Alzheimer’s Society with the aim of helping communities spread awareness and understanding of dementia. The purpose of this is to ensure that those living with dementia, their loved ones and their carers are all better supported in day-to-day life.
Our Activity and Kitchen teams thoroughly enjoyed organising a lovely spread of different cheeses, nibbles, wines and soft drinks for family members so that they could truly sit back and relax whilst our Dementia Champion ran an Information Session.
Victoria Nemar, Home Services Advisor for Waterside Court and Dementia Champion for the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “It was lovely to be able to do an Information Session in person. There is an interactive element that really helps personalise the sessions when they are done face-to-face. It was also really nice to see our family members get to meet each other properly and share their own personal experiences and stories with each other. Talking about dementia and care is an important step towards getting the right support.”

Waterside Court's First BBQ
Residents enjoyed their first BBQ at Waterside Court, with a selection of BBQ favourites prepared by our fantastic kitchen team.
Our downstairs dining room accesses our wonderful landscaped garden, so this seemed like the perfect area to sit back and enjoy tasty burgers, sausages and other BBQ treats along with a selection of home-made salads and coleslaws.
Virtual wine tasting event, but with real wine!
Residents were treated to a spectacular virtual wine tasting event at Waterside Court, hosted by our very own Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel.
Christophe was also joined by special guests Lee Isaac and Nick Parker from Unity Wine and Spirits. Lee talked through tasting a number of wines starting with sparkling, white, rose and red, providing information on the history of wine, how the grapes are chosen, the wine making process and the difference between old and young world wines.
Residents were eager to try all of the different wines we had on offer and the afternoon was filled with laughter and lots of interesting discussions.
