Activities at Waterside Court Care Home

Waterside Court welcomed its fantastic new team today! The team have started their four week induction, where they will learn about the high standards and expectations that we uphold at Barchester Healthcare.

As part of their induction, the team will also be receiving comprehensive training on a variety of subjects, such as Dementia Awareness, Health & Safety, Infection Control and much more.

Roxana Moldovan, General Manager at Waterside Court, commented: “I am so excited to be welcoming my wonderful team into this stunning home. We will be adopting a whole-home approach, so it was important to me that they all started together to begin team-building and training as a group. We have a very cohesive approach at Barchester and I can’t wait for the home to welcome its first resident in March with this new team ready and in place.”

This week, Roxana Moldovan (General Manager) and Victoria Nemar (Home Services Advisor) met with Iain, a representative from the Wallingford Methodist Church.

In order to ensure our homes are the hub of the local community and to enhance the lives of our residents, we have active community engagement programmes. Wallingford Methodist Church is a remarkable building with strong connections to the local community. Their magnificent halls are often used for activities, such as Yoga lessons, fitness sessions, Krafty Knitter activities and much more.

We are delighted to say that we will be working closely with Wallingford Methodist Church going forwards and they have invited us to have a look at the building and discuss how we can add to our Life Enrichment programme within the home. Working with Churches is also incredibly beneficial to our residents, as it enables them to continuing practicing their faith.

Activities in our homes have huge importance to our residents, which is why we are always looking to form relationships with clubs and organisations and any local groups operating in the area. As a new, purpose built care home, Waterside Court is well equipped to help residents live life to the fullest whilst maintaining as much independence as possible.

Waterside Court includes three spacious dining rooms where delicious, freshly prepared meals will be served by our chefs. We strive to ensure that all food served in our homes is nutritious, varied and tastes fantastic. Menus will be created using feedback from residents and we aim to cater for everyone’s personal tastes and dietary needs. Our fine dining service ensures that a high-quality meal experience is delivered to residents and we also offer a tray service if residents wish to eat in their rooms.

Our dining rooms also include fully functioning kitchenettes that allow residents to prepare their own snacks at any time. This purpose-built feature is incredibly important because it helps to enable residents to maintain as much independence as possible.

Our stunning new home is coming along nicely! One of the amazing features of Waterside Court is the designated indoor visiting suite, specifically built to enable relatives to continue visiting their loved ones amidst the pandemic.

The visiting suite has been designed with both comfort and safety in mind. The room is similar to a living room, with comfortable furnishings and heating to create a warm and welcoming environment for residents to continue to spend time with their loved ones. The room has an intercom system fitted so residents can clearly communicate and engage in conversation, whilst being able to see their friends and family through a Perspex glass divider fitted for safety to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Another great feature of the visiting suite is that it has been thoughtfully designed, so it is accessible internally by residents and externally by visitors, therefore minimising footfall through the home itself.

Whilst we look forward to a time where the visiting suites are no longer necessary, we are pleased to be able to offer the visiting suite to our future residents and families as a way of maintaining contact until government guidance changes. We have a lot of safety measures already in place, including a robust infection control policy to ensure safety across the home.

A live stream session took place on the 16th January, where some Councillors received information on what it's like to live with dementia. Home Services Advisor, Victoria Nemar, a Dementia Champion, ran the information session to teach the group about the small ways we all can help those living with dementia.

Dementia Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by Alzheimer’s Society. The Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative in the UK that aims to change people’s perceptions and understanding of dementia.

Victoria said, “It was fantastic to see the Councillors engaging so readily on such an important matter. Waterside Court are keen to make Wallingford a Dementia Friendly Community and to have the Council’s support will really help us achieve this goal. We’re really looking forward to making more Dementia Friend’s in our local community. The condition itself can be quite lonely and frightening, and the more understanding we have the better, especially given the current climate. Our team here at Waterside Court are always available to provide support and advice about care to anyone who needs it.”

Roxana Moldovan, General Manager at Waterside Court, met with representatives from Boots Pharmacy over Zoom to discuss how we will work together going forwards.

We are pleased to announce that Waterside Court and Boots Pharmacy have agreed a partnership, which includes providing monthly medication and ongoing governance support around medication management. This milestone will enable us to ensure that our residents will all receive the care and support they require.

Boots have a proven track record of delivering an efficient and effective process, which enhances safety in our home. We look forward to working closely with Boots Pharmacy going forwards!
