Activities at West Abbey Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.

Nikki Griffee

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.

What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

Such a fitting tribute on the Queens birthday to have the Mayor of Yeovil Join us. Evie spent the afternoon planting the apple tree, chatting to residents & telling stories of the history of the chain of office she wears around her neck. She played games on our interactive magic table & joined us all for afternoon tea in the garden, with homemade sweet treats made by our Head Chef Louis. We have promised the Mayor a homemade apple pie from the first batch of apples from the tree.

Mother's Day

Our residents all joined in to kindly picked out the winners name today for the Mother Day Bouquet!  Everyone wanted to see the bouquet and have a photo with it as it really did bring summer into the home. On Sunday every lady received a lovely flowering plant from West Abbey with a heart message from the team and enjoyed a special afternoon tea party

Spring seed planting!

Here at West Abbey we thought we would make the best out of the sunshine so this morning we had coffee in the garden then after lunch we headed out to our ploy tunnel to plant some seeds, we have planted some cucumbers, sweet peas, and a wild flower mix, residents really do like to be out in the fresh air.

Music therapy at West Abbey!

Our Music Therapist Siska encourages residents to join in with musical instruments, creating sounds to mirror her drums - who can resist giving the tambourine a shake?

Scrabble competition!

Residents love a game of scrabble and its lovely to see a group so engaged in the game!

Did you know Scrabble was conceived during the Great Depression by an unemployed New York architect named Alfred Mosher Butts, who figured Americans could use a bit of distraction during the bleak economic times

International Women's Day

Today we celebrated International Women's Day and started with a coffee morning for our residents and team who discussion the role of women in our life time and who has inspired us the most - everyone received a beautiful rose from the activities team as a thank you for their contribution to being part of our Barchester Healthcare family here at West Abbey.

Great quote from Michelle Obama "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish".
