Activities at West Abbey Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, as well as visits from the Donkey sanctuary, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our Cheese & Wine evenings and BBQ's in the summer, that we encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained. We encourage our residents to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can to ensure that life at West Abbey is fun and active for all.
Nikki Griffee
Hi, I'm Nikki and I originally came to work at West Abbey in 2018 and have worked in various roles supporting our residents.
What I enjoy about my job is that no two days are the same and most of all, I thoroughly enjoy everyday activities with the residents including 1-2-1 room visits all the way to professional singers visiting us. A firm favourite of mine and the residents at West Abbey is using our mini-bus weekly and visiting local nature hot spots! I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Life at West Abbey Care Home
Crafting on St David's Day
Residents celebrated St. David’s Day, the national day of Wales, crafting their very own daffodil decorations this week, each one carefully hand painted! They are now on display and really brighten up our home, lovely to bring spring from the garden inside
Making our own Bread!
Bread is the world's most widely eaten food and has been part of our diet since the early times of mankind so we just had to celebrate Real Bread Week here at West Abbey!
As a team, residents and Ryan kneaded, proven and baked a selection tasty traditional rolls, we all enjoyed reminiscing as we worked memories of watching mothers making bread at home and then doing the same with children and grandchildren
The rolls tasted delicious and we all agreed making bread binds us together as family
Helping our garden birds!
Residents are marking National Nest Box Week by creating and installing nest boxes in their garden to help support the local bird population. To attract the birds we chose bright paint colours and had a lovely afternoon decorating the boxes which will be going outside very soon.
Pamper in the Salon
Its been a busy Friday in the hair salon for Annette our hairdresser today, and best of all residents don't have to worry about getting windswept as they leave the salon! Everyone looks lovely and very happy
Valentines Day at West Abbey
Today residents at West Abbey celebrated LOVE with many things, a themed lunch in the decorated dining room, Jan McNeill - Entertainer and Speaker entertained us this afternoon and we placed thoughts from our hearts on the tree in reception.
Reminiscence with Jan
Another amazing Reminiscence session with residents favourite visitor Jan Millward.
This time we went back in time to look at working people like tailors and farmers. Jan then took us on a trip back to when ladies used to do embroidery, making gloves and the items that they used. We had a look at many items from old sewing books and items that had been made like a patchwork blanket, a tea cosy, all the gadgets used from darning mushroom, to lace work and an old singer sewing machine.
Not only does Jan bring all her interesting items to show us but she’s full of the knowledge and stories behind it, this allows her to connect with our residents on such a unique level.
